Cob or not?

Hi Folks...

I am thinking of showing my lad this summer (nothing big, just the local small ones) but wasn't sure if he is technically a cob!

He is Ardenne x New Forest and I would class him as a 'Cob Type' however if I were to show him could I enter him in a 'Show Cob' class as technically he isn't a Cob typical breed? :confused:

What do you guys think?

Hmm not sure but he is so cute! What an unusual colour! If not cob what about mountain and moorland classes as he is part newfie? I am sure there will be some showing peeps on here who can advise better though:)
 
Thanks Kinnygirl... Yes I will be showing him as a part bred M & M but there's loads of classes that are divided into Cob or Pony and I don't know which one he is... lol.

He is a Chestnut Roan and stays mostly like that throughout the year, except in the summer when his face & neck go near-white! I will enter him into some of the coloured classes tho... never thought of that one!
 
He looks far more like a cob "type" than a Show hunter /working hunter pony!! How tall is he. A show cob is between 14.2hh and 15.1hh and is trimmed and hogged within an inch of its life. If you could grow his feather and mane he would possibly pass as a traditional.
 
He could be hogged out to be shown as a show cob - all show cobs must be hogged and trimmed. He could do cob type, they can be shown hogged, plaited or natural. For part bred M&Ms he should be plaited.

Sorry but he is not true enough to type to be shown as a gypsy cob or traditional as he does not have enough hair for this or the correct conformation. He could show as a native type, and for this will need to be left natural.

If he were close to 15.1, I would try the show cob. Many of the 14,2s do struggle in this class.

He looks a lovely sort and I am sure you will have fun whatever you decide to compete him as.
