What discipline is a sports cob best suited to? He’s only 14.2 and is mediocre at everything, rather than especially talented in one area….much like me! I would like to focus on an area where cob types are more commonplace, so I don’t feel as though I’m always up against big sports horses. Where are Sports cobs most often seen (please don’t say on a hack ?)

Bar one bigger RDA event, I've only competed at local shows and low level dressage, so that is where I've seen cobs doing really well. Usually beating me too! :D

You said don't say on a hack but if you do enjoy hacking and doing a bit of everything, I can highly recommend Le Trec - any horse from cross breds, natives, cobs, TBs to WBs can do well. I've found it to be a fun & friendly sport.

How nice that you are looking to choose something to suit the horse you have, rather than trying to force your horse to do something you want to do!

I have seen many a smart sports cob doing very well BD Also when fence judging BE, a FIT sports cob often does very well, and both horse and rider usually have the biggest smiles. Unfit cobs are different story, and sadly I have seen far too many of those struggling round this month :(

If you wanted to do dressage or jumping, just choose a level you can both do- there's no need to limit what you want to do just because he's not the "right type ". If he works nicely in the school, have a go at dressage. If he enjoys jumping ,.then go for it.
Run your own race and enjoy what you do. I intend to do dressage and jumping with my cob - don't give two shites if we'll be the odd ones out!

There are quite a few cobs and Cob crosses on the endurance circuit. Some get up to quite a high level. Search YouTube for Patchwork Polly Endurance and you'll find some videos of the Cob x trotter Patchwork Polly before she retired.

You can do anything? Do what you enjoy. Who cares what type the other horses are? I used to own an amazing little 14.2 Highland who I competed (and won frequently) as an adult against the big posh horses in eventing and show jumping ;) I loved riding in on my scruffy pony and beating them. Your cob will likely improve if you focus on something you enjoy.
