We made a very late decision to go to Cobham Manor on saturday...in fact, the decision was only made on saturday morning
blush.gif

The idea was to take both Bo and Trike for the 1.05m and 1.10m which were scheduled to start 'not before 2pm'. In fact, the idea was to have a look at the 1.05m and make a decision on whether to jump Trike at all or not...we've not jumped one together yet
tongue.gif

We set out in good time, leaving an hour and a half to get there....but TomTom decided he didn't really know the way and so we actually arrived at about 2:15pm
shocked.gif
They were already over half way through the 1.05m which was well upto height, and so i immediately decided that Trike wasn't jumping lol! Anyway, the entry secretary was very friendly and said that they were still taking entries for both the 1.05m and 1.10m, and to take as long as i needed getting ready
grin.gif
I watched a horse jump, and then got Bo off the lorry and warmed up. He jumped a clear, albeit not in the greatest rhythm, but a clear nonetheless
smile.gif
So, drawn 1st in the JO and with 6 to follow, i decided to push on. He threw a silly nappy strop from 1 to 2....a right turn to a decent oxer...and so we picked up 4 faults there for a resistance...bu99er
mad.gif
Carried on and jumped much better to the last fence which was a double of oxer to upright, and just rolled the second part. Eight faults wasn't going to get us in the money....but 6th place was okay i guess
tongue.gif

The 1.10m went up again, and looked like a fairly decent track. Bo was jumping much better this time...in fact he was on fire
grin.gif
We were flying to the last line....and big oxer off the corner, then 4 short ones to a double of uprights on 8.5 yds ! Got a real flier over the oxer, and made up too much ground to the double and so were a little flat going in....rolled the first part....4 faults at the last fence.....garrrrrgh
frown.gif

It was the first time we'd been to Cobham, and it was a nice friendly venure, with a decent surface
smile.gif
Bo jumped really well, and i'm looking forward to a step up to 1.15m next sunday at Golden Cross now
smile.gif

Thanks for reading...

Sounds like a decent day. I've got to admit don't trust sat nav and would worry particularly in a lorry - hope you didn't end up down any narrow lanes with nowhere to turn!!

Good luck at Golden Cross.

Oh gutted i missed you, i was there doing the first class...well done on the good results - first time i'd been there to and thought it was quite nice, well Star liked it lol

Tom Tom (or Tim Tim as I prefer to call it
tongue.gif
) has sent me into a field more than once and routinely thinks i'm driving in a river!
grin.gif
! I forgot to get an update for it and tried to use the M6 toll road once- tom tom hadn't worked out what the toll road was and I didn't have a map- recipe for disaster!

Sorry to go OT - sounds like it wasl a worthwhile day out. I didn't realise that you got faults for resistance- have you got to be three strides from the fence/committed or do you get faults wherever the nap occurs? (Sorry to be dim but we don't have BSJA around here and I've never been, assuming it was bsja)

What's next for Trike?

Good luck for next week with Bo

DOH! I drove straight past you! Let us know if you go there again...

LOL!

How do you know it was me

Sounds like a decent day even with the pole rolling - Bo just wants those bigger fences
grin.gif

You're actually sooo right...it has just needed a couple of rounds back to get our confidence up. No word of a lie, he just picks a different gear when the fences go up a bit. I can't wait until sunday now

Yep....you can get 4 faults for a resistance anywhere on the course....On this occasion was indisputable though as he spun round 360 degrees on his back legs
shocked.gif

ETS: Trike will hopefully get a run at GC on sunday, although having seen the 1.05m yesterday, we are now seriously considering NOT bothering with the Blue Chip Finals in April. Although the track is only 1m in the first round, it is over 3 rounds and so will likely end up between 1.15m aqnd 1.20m....and that is just too much for Trike at the moment

Cobham manor is my local comp centre im just up the a249 so its only down the road.

Michelle the owner is lovely and very considerate and will open up all 3 schools to warm up in if necessary. The jumps are something else there tho arent they hehehe!.

I love the cow jump and the big bright pink turret wings in cerise pink!

I go there for unaff stuff, might go and do p10 there on friday.

Well done on your rounds a great sucess and never mind about the faults.

It sounds like you had a fabby day!

How did you get on with star lady magoo?

4 fualts is annoying but more so wehen the horse has jumped really well. The feeling is all too familiar after competing yesterday.
Good luck with the move up to 1.15.

LOL!

Yes, some of the fences are rather colourful aren't they
tongue.gif
They're solid though which makes a nice change as the horses tend to jump a bit better over them than they do over flimsy, poley jumps.

Good luck for your dressage...

Agreed....it is frustrating....but the way of going was important too

Well done, I think I would have been pulling my hair out over the Tom Tom though

[/ QUOTE ]

Hehe....I should have trusted it more
shocked.gif

I decided to 'ignore' it's advice when it said 'turn right' but there was a big sign saying 'not suitable for heavy vehicles'
tongue.gif
I ended up going straight ahead and into the one-way system at Maidstone in peak saturday traffic
shocked.gif

On the way home i decided to risk following the instructions, and in fact, the lane that it took us down was fine for the lorry. At least we know the way for next time now
smile.gif

So, Tom Tom became Dim Dim before reverting back again

You know you want to...

Hello Rambo, I thought that it must have been you. I was one of the judges, and worked out who you were, from the fact that my co-judge said that you were a Sussex rider, normally had two horses, your horse was called Rambo. Just in case it wasn't you, I didn't come and introduce myself as didn't want to look silly.

I love your horse, what a lovely steady tempo he has, and he's a real trier, isn't he. I think he was the one who didn't like the rainbow filler - vertical rear!

Anyway, now I know your real name, I'll keep my eye out and I can definitely come and say hello.

Well done for Saturday. Isn't it a lovely venue (when the weathers nice).

Oh and well done to Flower and LadyMagoo, who were both there too.

Susan

Hi Susan !

I didn't realise you were one of the judges ! I saw Liz in the judges box and gave her a smile....and wondered what she was doing out of area lol! You should have come over and said hi
smile.gif

Thanks for your lovely comments about Bo...he felt really good in the 1.10m.....just a bit of a shame about the last pole
frown.gif
He's making a bit of a habit of these little strops in the 1st class JO's though...did exactly the same at Crockstead lasst weekend in the first one too
mad.gif
Costing me money lol!

Was Megan there competing ? I recognised a few of the faces from previous ventures we've made into Kent...but there were plenty of others i didn't know
tongue.gif

It made a lovely change to jump outside too....and as i want to keep Bo's legs right this summer i think we might make a few more trips over...and of course to your place too
grin.gif

PMSL !

Was it really that vertical !?

I don't think it was the filler he was objecting too though....just being put under pressure on a right turn
frown.gif
He's done this a few times now, and i think the dentist is coming to have a look as he suspects it might be something to do with his teeth
tongue.gif

Yes that was me, the short, fat one! - Liz recognised you straight away, but it took me a while to connect that you were Rambo!

Wasn't really a vertical rear, more of a showing you who's boss! Actually, I nearly missed it as I briefly looked down at my paperwork only to look up to see you doing a complete circle on the spot (maybe you should take up dressage!)

Megan wasn't there as she teaches on Saturdays, so is a busy girl, but it's a nice venue and the surface is good. They got Graham Fletcher clinics there coming up, so I'm thinking of booking Megan a lesson with him, just cos I think they get a bit stale with the same instructor all the time, and she could do with a treat.

Anyway, now I know who you are, I shall definitely come and introduce myself next time I see you.

Susan

Well done Rambo
laugh.gif

Sounds like Bo is definatly up for the bigger classes again. I bet your chuffed to bits that he is almost back to normal (apart from the napping but the Bo wouldn't be Bo if he made life easy for you LOL).

Shame about Trike though but your right not to push him
smile.gif

Thanks Kelly
smile.gif

Really didn't fancy crashing through any back rails with the Trike monster....and couldn't get there any earlier so no chance of jumping the BN or Disco
frown.gif
He'll get to play on sunday though
smile.gif

Well done. I didn't realise you were there.

I had 2 down in the Discovery and 1.05 open. I did think the line you mention (double of verticals to oxer or vice versa) was a very short 4 or a long 3. Caught us out both classes.

Don't think I've ever seen a water tray with just a single pole at 1.05 over it either - although it didn't seem to cause any problems.

Argh...I didn't see you there
frown.gif
We didn't arrive until 2:15pm though, so most of the 1.05m had gone by then
tongue.gif

I know what you mean about the water tray too...the pole did look a little 'suspended in space' lol! I saw one person stop at it in the JO, and a couple of others have it down. They very kindly added a second pole to it in the 1.10m though....after a few people had walked the course with it as a single pole lol! I think someone mentioned it and they decided to add another to fill in the gap a bit
smile.gif

Bad luck for the two down. How did Chloe go though...was she happy to be there ?

She went well thanks. Better for being outdoors I think. I need to make up my mind about what to do in distances like that though - whether to kick and go for 3 or hold for the 4. Did think it was a little unfair to have that sort of distance before/after a double of verticals, especially as the other distances seemed to walk true and evenly.
