Has anyone tried any at this place or bought from there. Just seen a horse advertised that might be o.k for a friend of mine but don't want to suggest if they're dodgey.

I went once when I went to see another horse near by (the seller worked at Cobs & Plods). We just turned up, unannounced and we're shown round by Tom. His wife came to talk to us and his kids were running around too. He seemed to have a lot of young irish imports in but they seemed nice enough, with roomy stables and round tums. The yard certainly wasn't the tidiest of places but they seemed nice people. I didn't buy from there in the end so can't comment on that.

I havent heard bad reports and it will be bombproof, he does introduce them to almost everything but have the horse vetted! Theres one from there near us and it is totally bombproof, sweet and ridden by all the family. Its a nice young lightweight cob and passed the vetting with flying colours.

if you come to our yard about 50 % of the horses are from tom and liz at cobs n plods. they are all exactly what tom and liz say they are. infact we have 17 riding school ponies and only 4 of them arnt from cobs n plods. they are fab, and if the horse doesnt suit they take it straight back and swop it. pm me if you want to know more. but at our yard we cant recommend them enough

Thanks for that. Other than one bad report most seem to think they're o.k. So long as the horse is sane and excellent at hacking that is all that is required as friend has lost her confidence on her tb and needs something to chill out on but one that can be ridden by the whole family. She liked my new boy but he has a home for life with me

Go and have a look for your self, i know the area and if your looking for a boom prof family horse is a good place to try them there are big wagons passing all the time large noisey factorys tractors going up and down. especialy during the week.

It always makes me smile when people make comments without knowing the full facts. How can anyone make an informed decision about this place unless they have been there and rode some of the horses they have on offer. I have bought 2 horses from Liz and Tom. Bonny was my first very horse, yes she was old and had all the ailments oldies have, but I was told this when I saw her. I would not be without Bonny she has taught me all I need to know about horse management. Liz knew I was green and couldnt have given me a better horse to start with. Then we bought Seamus, he is very young and well rounded. Liz and Tom both knew my riding ability and I have to say steered me in the right direction. They would not have let me buy something that I couldnt handle, for which I am greatful. I will be going back to them as they do not sell horses unless they trust them. I hope that helps?

Oh no..... i've just looked at their website and seen that little fluffy colt.

Unsee... unseee.... you can't have another.. no no no.

Infact blacky looks gorgeous too. Just like my boy. No no no!:o

My fiend part exd and got a lovely mare from there who has restored the confidence she lost with her previous horse.

The first one she got turned out to be riddled with sarcoids (although TBF CobsnPlods didn't appear to know about them as the horse was 'just off the boat'.
So she sent it back (although she had to keep it until they had a space for it).

Another woman I know part exd her horse and got a couple of ponies from there but they all turned out to be 'too much' for her (although she is a special case). In the end she got some money back (although it wasn't easy) and she got a pony from elsewhere.

They are good but you need to know what you are doing.

So have the horse vetted BEFORE you take it off the yard. Spend a while getting to know it and have it on trial first.

Some years ago now I got a horse from them and it was lame. They did exchange. Sadly that horse died 8 mth later no fault of theirs.

Would I recommend ? maybe. But have horse vetted and if not experienced or even if you are take someone with you.

They sound fine. They take unsuitable horses back and seem to have happy owners also.

Not every purchase is going to be a match. Sometimes things just don't work out.

I rang them up once when I was looking.Would go if I was looking again. They told me I could bring my instructor/friend/neighbour or whoever I fancied with me.If I wished I could go in the field, catch horse, bring in,groom, tack up and ride,They said I could ride in the school and or a hack. They did add though that they wouldn't let everyone hack out as "some people set their hearts on something not suitable for them."
