This is totally random, is there anybody out there that has a cob and rides in a western saddle?

I love western and wondered if it's something that is 'acceptable' in the horsey world

Loads of people do, a few in our village, go for it

The Welsh cob that I used to ride, she has a Western Saddle, was specially fitted and all that business, it actually looks very nice on her and the owner has always preffered to use the Western when she used to ride her because she felt more secure in it.

Our area rep, Emma Letchford has a lovely coloured cob that she competes in WES classes. He does a neat flying change!
If you look on the WES website, www.wes-uk.com there's a slide show at the bottom of the home page, and I think Emma's in one of the pix (you have to be patient, they roll over at random, but do show all sorts of horses doing western, including several of our QH mare, a little grey!)
Cobs are easier to fit with a western saddle than you'd think - the quarter horse is round barrelled and flat backed too, and most western saddle trees are based on this. The only issue is that some saddles are a bit long for anything very short backed, but because the reining horses are bred to be short coupled, 'short and wide' saddles with rounded skirts to ensure they don't catch on the horse's hips are available. If you look at the area contacts on the website, you'll find an email address for someone in your area who can help you find a saddle!

Not a cob, but our old clydesdale Cairo was ridden western and we shortly will be using the saddle on Farra our new clydie mare.

You can't beat a huge western saddle on a clydesdale for the ultimate comfortable way to gently hack over the countryside.
