Rather please with my hairy pony (15hh shire x gypsy vanner), had him loose jumping for the first time the other day and he was doing quite well really. Managed a 90cm upright quite easily, and a 80cm high/90cm wide spread out of trot!

This is a cob who 6 months ago demolished whatever jump you put in front of him. Suspect he could quite easily go higher, but think he might need to loose a bit more fat first and trying to keep it fun for him.

Sorry to hi jack your thread, but I thought it would be about that book too... Was hoping for some reviews, ive debated getting it but not sure if it's worth the 20 odd quid.

Feathered - I have the book and would thoroughly recommend it. Is very interesting reading if nothing else but has helped me kick start the work with my cob again!

F there is a post on BD forum bout this book and it was really recommended plus author is a member of the forum :)

Fab vid R260 :D

Rach260- your boy is lovely. I know that my cob gets so excited when he sees a jump that he squeals!!

Feathered - I got the "Cobs Can" book for my OH's birthday. It is very good - lots of nice cob pictures haha - but the advice is also good. Basically, it focuses on how we need a different approach when schooling a cob as opposed to a TB. We're still reading it but have got lots of ideas to try when we school him. An inspring book for cob owners.

I have it in my basket on Amazon (along with a billion other things!) and I am just waiting to get paid. I have a Highland but I understand the book is aimed at anyone who rides one of the heavier breeds?

Horse and Rider magazine are running a series of articles by him at the moment.
And if you subscribe in October you get a free Amigo rug :D

Just curious does he often land disunited after a fence? Looked like he did it a few times. Very nice little man though. And cobs can definatly jump!

He hardly ever lands disunited tbh and when he does its usually because we turned to late into the fence, which is probably why he did it quite a bit here as the indoor school we have is only a small 30mx15m

What I lovely horse with a fab jump. I'm really interested in this book going to have a look tomorrow. I have owned my cob for 7 years now and only started seriously schooling during the last year. He is working great on the flat and jumping well so Hopefully it will give us some tips and advice for our fury friends :)

I recommend the book too! it applies to most horses not just the cobs :) plus the best showjumper Ive ever had was a cob (14hh mare doing 3ft 3 classes in horses section and won)
