'Cobs CANT Jump'?

I jumped my friends cob the other week. He certainly could jump and was really keen into the fences. Ok they were only small, about 3ft, but we were having bucking issues and I didn't want to teach him bad manners. With work he would easily fly round a BN or discovery.

My old JA was part cob as well, he used to jump 1.30m and was so fast against the clock he used to get placed even with a fence down in the first round.

When our two were on the junior affiliated circuit we saw alot of cobs out there doing the job. If you want proof, goggle cj's kemosabi. Ridden by louise Saywell. They were on all the british junior teams and he was a coloured cob to boot!!!

oh yes... I mean Ron just carts me away from the field towards the hedge if I let him! thing is he'd jump it too!

The one time he's ever stopped was when we were having an arguement about waiting for our turn out hunting... he decided he wouldn't wait his turn for the nice rails, but would take his chance with the hedge. Two strides out and I decided there was no way he was planning on stopping so he'd bl@@dy well jump the thing, kicked on and he stopped. I was sitting at his head height in the hedge. When I climbed down/out the hedge was well over 9 foot tall!

I've never heard anyone say that cobs can't jump! In fact, the only time I've heard that phrase is from cob owners saying "who said that cobs can't jump?!" ;)

Meh why not i'll join in. :D
My old cob, aff jumping and allround super star. Unhinded by the fact she was more than likely clyde cross and looked like a yak unclipped

i have a shire x thoroughbred ( more like an irish build though.....not sure where the shire has gone!!) hes about to move up to novice BE with scope to go allot further! :D

wow I never knew Friesians could jump! He's beautiful!
I mean any breed can jump if it's the right horse - but it looks really natural for him! :)

Nah, they cant jump ;) Sadly some of the ppl that told me they couldnt jump were ppl from the friesian horse association. Shame on them!!! Yeah, he had never jumped before I had him. I taught him on the lunge, after a few weeks he was jumping the top of the wings.

And thank-you :)

Cobs aren't designed to jump, that's not what they were bred for. All horses are capable of jumping to a degree but the heavier ones that jump to a decent level will be few and far between. Its just like any breed, some are better at some things than others. Opening a can of worms here but IMO arabs are the worst at jumping (not anglo's or part breds, only pure breds!).

How is a shire X TB a cob??

Does anyone even say these things that make cob owners complain? I've never heard anyone!! Think it’s all just a bit excuse for you all to post piccies! ;)

well passport says shire x tb but i know his dad nd hes a big fat hairy traditional cob! i think theres a pic of him onmy profile if you want to see him! :D

There are plenty of cobby types especially welsh d's going round the eventing circuit of intro and pre-novice.

I caan finally add to the cobs CAN jump post.

Mine is only 4, and well if he's jumping this now...

I have heard arabs are pretty rubbish. My sisters pony was a part bred. I have just taken on a pure bred. When I finally get on him, he is being broken at the grand old age of 14, I will let you know. Actually, I might jump him on the lunge first so I can have a giggle. :p

If only I had some pics of the wide dykes I used to jump with my little fella out hunting, there was only a few large regular hunters that went over, still to this day I scratch my head and wonder how the hell we got over them.

We used to have not only a jumping cob....

But an EVENTING cob!

Not only could he jump bigger, gallop faster and run truer than 90% of the TBs and warmbloods he competed against - he could actually do a blooming marvelous dressage test!

We were once given the filthiest look by a TB owner, who proceeded to come second last. Zak was 5th! Suck on that, TB owner!

The only issue with eventing cobs... is that they ain't stupid. One of our local courses was collapsable. Why jump, reasoned a 14.3hh heavyweight cob with over 10 inches of bone, when I can push everything over!!!!!!!

Native cob x, maybe not the greatest take-off for jumping but felt like flying! I have to say it's the only thing he gets energised about..

This!
And then usually an excuse to rip on TB's or "dumb bloods" although thankfully that hasn't happened on this thread ;)

I used to occasionally ride a 15.3 cob..... I weighed about 6 1/2 stone at the time and was probably about 5ft tall. He had this figured out - once took off with me and jumped one of the wide spread jump wings ..... well, I think he could jump, even if it wasn't what I wanted from him!
