Little bit of a survey here - following on from all those beautiful trimmed cobs on the other post!!

Those with good boned cobs - how tall are they and how tall are you? I would like to ask weights too but think that could be too personal.

I have a 4yo irish cob that is currently 14hh (hoping he might grow a bit!) - he has the most massive bone of a pony that size - I am 5ft4in but am carrying a bit of excess weight ;-)

I have two options, I either bring him on (he was unbroken!) and sell him as a project in the Spring or I keep him. He has the most wonderful loving temperament and if I could put him on a rack or give him some kind of growth hormone I would!!

Hairy boy is 15.1hh and I am 5'7''. He's ridden at weekends by OH who is 6' and around 13 stone. Used to be ridden by a friend who was 6'3''. Everyone looks fine on him, he's got plenty of bone and plenty of girth to take up long legs.

At 5'4'' riding a 14hh cob, you should be perfect.

My boy is 15.1hh, I'm 5'4 and 'carrying a little holiday weight' lol
With show cobs lightweights acrry up to 14 st & heavyweights over 14 st
I'd say your cob is well capable of carrying you

Cobs rule! : )

I have a 14.3hh Traditional Cob. He is has just turned 6 years old, but is still growing! He has 10 inches of bone.

I am 5ft 3inches tall and weigh 13.5 stone (on a good day).

I do light hacking about 3 or 4 times a week, occasional schooling (once a fortnight) and the odd walk trot dressage test. We spend most of our life in walk with some trotting and a rare canter on a hack. I am experienced, and used to do unaffiliated eventing, but since having 3 kids and 3 c-sections, I prefer taking it easy with gentle hacking!

My horse can be quite sporty though! My friend has ridden him in the past and she is about 8.5 stone and taller than me and an excellent rider. She looks great on him, and he goes beautifully for her, I would let her do jumping or a hunter trial on him if she so desired. But I wouldnt expect him to carry me round a course!

But I like the quiet life. And he doesnt complain!

If I were 5ft 4 and had a 14hh cob I would be keeping him!! I have a 13.2 welsh cob, and I am 5ft 7, and 12 stone. He carries me with no problems at all. He is a little short for me, but he was loaned to me by a friend so it works out ok, I probably wouldn't have bought a pony quite this short, just becuase he is quite short coupled too.

Blue is 14hh and I am 5ft 10 ish. She has absolutely no trouble with me. You'll be fine size wise so if he's that good don't let him go. We have no plans to let Blue go anywhere either :)

My 6ft2 OH used to ride a 15.1hh cob, he looked a little tall (he has long legs and rides long) but it didn't stop him doing well unaff in dressage and showing (cobs and coloureds). In fact he looks bigger on our warmblood than he did on the cob!

My cob is 15.1hh I'd say he's mid to heavy weight and I'm 5.7ft and was at one point 15 stone!!!! He certainly didn't struggle carrying me but I felt I needed to do something about the weight so I did, I now vary between 11 and half and 12 stone depending on the pig out that weekend!! Lol!! :D

My LW cob is just shy of 14.2 but quite wide. I am just shy of 5ft10 and weigh just under 10st she carries me fine plus takes up the leg really well, quite like her small and hope she doesn't grow too much more :)

Thank you so much guys - you have really put my mind at rest. I need for my and the pony's sake to lose a few lbs as I am 14 st now!

Right, weightwatchers here I come!

He really is the most gorgeous boy. I used to have an IDx mare that I never bonded with because she had a tendency to be a bit of a beach (if you know what I mean!) now and then and I never totally trusted her round the back end. She never let me catch her first time and napped like a mule!

This boy is gorgeous, he follows me round the field, gives me the most amazing cuddles and has been an angel to break (so far!) - if only he would grow a couple of inches I might feel a bit better but he is built like the preverbial poop hut!

I would keep him if I was you. Sounds lovely.
Im 5ft 4 and quite heavy and my horse is a gypsy type cob whose 14.3hh. He carries weight no problems.

I asked a similar question recently about my new 13.3hh trad cob who is 4 1/2 years old and I am 5ft 7 and weigh just under 12 1/2 stone. He carries me fine for the odd bit of light hacking and schooling we do once or twice a week and I dont look toooo big for him.

I feel quite uncomfortable on him though but maybe I just need to get used to him!
