I much prefer trimmed. The mane takes no time to grow back and it's not permanent. Experiment and decide what you prefer. :)

Wow broke but happy, what a transformation! Gone from everyday run of the mill cob to super smart show cob!

Following this thread with interest as its something I'm debating for my youngster.

Can I jump in and ask a question for those that have done it and then gone back to the hairy look. How long did all take to grow back? Just incase you all inspire me to take the plunge and then I hate it!

Keep these transformations coming please. Also an honest admission of how long it take a mane to grow back would be great. I have an internal debate with myself about hogging my girl every day and a proper conversation with others at least once a week!

Hairy mostly. Although the more roman nosed cobs look really smart hogged and featherless. Think our little chap is too pretty for it :D

It broke my heart when OH hogged my boy but now I trim every week or so...he looks fab, kinda like a police horse :). I still prefer hairy feathers but as mine all live out, it is more practical to keep an eye on their feet etc without.

Thank you :o He's barely 14.2 though so a little small to show!

The last time I took off his feather it took about a year to grow back, so I would think the mane would take about the same?

I've never hogged my mare out as I do prefer them hairy and she's 1/3 tb so isn't too bad but my sister's cob has been both hogged and hairy. I think he looks brilliant both ways but much nicer hairy.
For everyone saying it takes loads of work to look after hairy, use mane and tail conditioner and it takes about 5 minutes once every couple of days to brush through mane, tail and feathers, then add a spray barrier and the mud runs straight off, no bother at all and I've always found that when hairy with feathers they don't get mud fever and cracked heels, the only time we've had problems with those is when they were clipped out as the hair provides protection for the skin.

It took Chippy about 2 years to fully grow back but he looked decent within about 6 months or so.

Sychnant your horse is stunning, looking at him just proves that cobs should be HAIRY! And I am not a fan of coloureds but I could take him home.
