Loves his farrier, loads himself, literally, stands like a rock for the dentist, jumps anything, can do a decent dressage test. His only foible, which seems to have improved with age, is that he won't be caught by strangers, so I have to introduce the yard staff!

I think perhaps peoples opinions are coloured by their experiences. I am old my experience of cobs is as I said either dead from the neck up or strong and bargy.

Many, many people claim that's their experience of highlands though - and we both know that's a load of nonsense...

A horse - any horse - is as good as its trainer, and its rider. A well trained cob can be a delight - unless you want to win at GP or event at a decent level (or, in my case, hooley around a polocrosse pitch, pretending I know what I'm doing!).

I don't like pretty ponies, or anything too agricultural. I like my native pony faces (and so do Dengie, apparently, as they have Dae as their current hifi lite poster boy!). But if I want a horse to do a job, any face will do.

Well I think my mare looks good visually(when she's clean):

She's making such good progress at the minute as well and is actually great with traffic but really I just love her and from the second I saw her eyes I knew I'd have her and even though it hasn't gone how I expected if I had to go back and choose again I'd choose her every time.

I'm not particularly interested in owning one, but I appreciate them for what they are. Bizarrely, I seem to be really good at schooling cobs - no idea what I do, but I can get a nice tune out them pretty quickly - so they feel like they're floating on little hairy clouds. I guess there's something about how I ride that is suited to a cob brain/body.

He is beautiful! I love the contrast in the photos! This was exactly what I was wanting to see and hear :D Thanks so much!!1

I have to admit I have never felt much affinity with cobs, although I have known some lovely ones. They just aren't my type. I like pretty ponies, am not a big fan of feather and I can't stand cob moustaches! BUT a friend of a friend allowed me to have a ride on her cob at a local hunter trial, back when I was having issues with my pretty but bonkers feather and moustache free pony. I had never sat on him before and here I was taking him round the 2'6'' class (not big I know but when your confidence is not that high its big enough). He was wonderful! Yes he was a little heavier on the forehand than I was used to and yes he probably felt like I was an ineffectual stick insect on top, but he cruised round the course like a perfect gent, met every fence on the perfect stride and brought me home with a grin on my face. So I definitely understand the draw based on my experience with him! My other half wanted me to ditch my nutty spaniard and get a cob...I think I will stick with the nutty spaniard for now!

If you love horses I don't think it's actually possible to 'hate' any type of horse. Some may not be as aesthetically pleasing to you as others and some may not be what you want temperament wise but why would you waste your time and energy 'hating' any type of horse? I'm always confused by this type of question. To me it's like saying, do you hate blondes/brunettes or people with brown/blue eyes? I mean why on earth would you????

this attitude I like a lot. But it is possible to have preferences/biases to a certain type I think; for example I love spotted horses because my fewspot is such a sweetheart.
That said every breed has its bad apples.

I think hate is a strong word but it in this it is a bit like marmite you either love it or hate it not the true emotion of hate. I dont hate any animal, insect or reptile but I really dont like earwigs I wouldnt say I hated them but I wouldnt be too keen on having one in my house. Cobs are in a similar bracket I dont want to see them all off the face of the earth but I wouldn't want to own one. Be a boring world if we all liked the same things
