Cobs that ride like tb's!!

you mean hot headed forward going rides? mine's like this when he's on form and feeling well. I love it and I've had many offers for him over the years (he's not for sale!) but it helps that he's not remotely spooky and very "safe" with beginners - dunno if an absolute nutter would have a niche in the market!
 
my cob rides like a tb and i love it! would not buy a tb tho lol, sound strange? i love the fact that there is a cob brain in my horse, like i can take him for a canter in a field and he will be bouncy and strong but as soon as we come bk to walk, he is sane again.
And just love his cob build :)
 
Hes very much a forward ride, you dont need any leg on him and hes very forward and excitable when jumping, never ever bucks rears etc but just enjoys hes work, i love having a forward cob because there's alot of body under you which makes me feel very secure, unlike a tb! Im just dreading the sale as alot of people dont realise just how forward he can be as hes looks deceive everyone lol
 
mine never bucks or rears either but is forward going and bouncy which is fun!
I also like that i have alot of body underneath me.
just explain to people before they get on that he is not a plod but is fun and forward going. the right person will fall in love with him. not everyone wants a kick along cob

Thankyou hun, i fell in love with him on the first day we owned him, he thinks hes human! Fingers crossed! Although Heartbeaking :(

Ditto that! I think there is def a market for cobs, people do see them as 'different' and perhaps dont see them as what they can actually do. I have a lovely proper cob so forward going and fun, she came 10th out of 49 at a local prestigous xc event thi year...loads of people were so amazed like thinking cobs can't do it! The next week she came 2nd out of 30 at a local sj/xc event and we have just started.....
 
That annoys me a little, like when people see us out and I say how well we have done they are like, what? really? Totally not believing us.....but when I turn up at the xc events people just look at us almost like a bit of a joke I suppose as I am not on a finer horse but it's ok as I know we will go clear. She is an amazing horse, so honest. We have even won first place rosettes in indoor SJ, jumping up to 2ft 9 courses!

My YO has an amazing cob!! I was very honoured to be given the chance to ride him in the school, thinking he would be slightly 'cobby but hell could that boy move!! He is an AMAZING little dressage horse too and i seriously think, anyone who thinks cobs are slow and ploddy, they need to see him action!!
 
Mine was like that at the weekend going a million mph down the beach after his Tb pal. And tonight in the field. Can be super plod when need him to be and is a great mentor. But when he is allowed to let rip he can't half shift
 
When I was looking for a cob to buy, the first question I asked was 'is it a 'plod cob'? If they said yes I wouldn't continue the conversation.

The cob I have bought can only be desribed as an 'angelic nutter' - which will make sense to many forward going cob owners! He jumps like a stag, has a hell of a buck, can keep up with the thrusters on the hunting field, but my 9yr old child can hack him out on a long rein. I have lost count the amount of people that see him and say that he looks a nice sensible sort, and then look on in shock as he shows his heels and charges across the hunting field!

So in answer to your question, yes there are plenty of people out there that would like a forward going cob.

I hate the association between cobs and ploddy! They were bred to work!!

All you can do is advertise your horse and see if anyone suitable comes forward. It would be interesting to know how you get on :)
 
I purchased mine as I just wanted a comfortable plod, purposely seeking out an older horse. My mate got a young TB as she was fed up of 'boring' cob types.
What we've ended up with is my cob is an action packed powerhouse, up for anything and can do a nice line in prancing sideways, snorting with his tail up like a flag pole when the fancy takes him. Her TB is calm, placid and would rather watch his hacking partners cantering off into the distance whilst he catches up at a nice sedate walk!
I reckon there's a growing market for fit, forward cobs. Riders, like a lot of the population, are getting larger and may need horses than can carry a bit more weight. Doesn't mean they are only going to want to plod about, they may want horses capable of a good day's hunting, a blast round XC etc
