Cobwebs and stables

Afternoon,

I quite like spiders as they do a sterling job of fly trapping etc so I've left them be until now but as they've left their old homes behind while moving to bigger ones, now time to have a quick clean up and have attacked a good few today while politely explaining to any cross aracnids that they were welcome to rebuild.

So was just wondering what most folks feel about their local friendly stable spiders? I've heard opinions ranging from leave them be as they help with draughts and fly munching to they are a fire hazard and whip down every last web

I do clean them up especially once they are covered in dust it just can't be very healthy having them like that in the stable, but it's not long until they come back I have no problem with the spiders and yes they do a grand job keeping the bugs down.

I knew someone who bought her Hoover down and hoovered them all up periodically. I just used to push the bed to one side and use a soft broom to knock them down and then sweep them up. I don't mind them but my skin crawls when I see stables that are thick with those big old cobwebs that look a bit like saggy stockings hanging from the ceiling

I was looking into getting a hand held hoover to slurp then up but I don't think any are really strong enough to do it

Just clean probably once or twice a year as once they’re full of dust they’re usually abandoned anyway. Just clean down with a broom taking care nothing falls on my head.

I’m not that keen on spiders but if they’re not in my house and leave me alone I’m not too bothered.

Broom with cloth securely tied round, big hat for you preferably water proof and bucket full of water big enough for broom head. Job done

Hate, hate, hate spiders ...... but just too busy/lazy to deal with cobwebs in stables!

I saw helium balloons with a cloth on being used on an episode of a cleaning programme but not sure they could cope with the cobwebs here

The two stables have been done today and look better. I just need to work out how to clean the windows inside the bars.......

Would a window cleaner “scraper” work? You could put it between the bars and then turn it at right angle to use it.

A Ken Dodd tickling stick is what you need with a long handle (for those of you old enough to remember). I have one with an extending handle and quick flick around and then shake outside and sweep up, hate, hate, hate spiders and boy we have some biggies! They are welcome to rebuild to catch those pesky flies but can't stand lots of cobwebs covered in dust,

Feather duster/radiator cleaner/Venetian blind duster/cleaner for the window bars?

Sorry but I completely pressure wash my stables out in spring, roof and all. Any spiders get squashed. Cleans the barred windows well tooo.

I completely remove them from yard, stables and hay barn in late spring, I do the field shelters in late autumn.
However, I didn't do the big shelter last yr and have a couple of long flags hanging in there which I keep dodging at present! :redface3:

I use a corn brush once a year or so-and wear a hazmat suit although it doesnt stop the uncontrollable shudders I get when I do it!

Im scared to death of Spiders, I do a dance and run a mile lol. The spiders get to stay because Im too scared to clear the webs!

We do a full blitz down & repaint / varnish / powerwash / scrub of the barn every summer. Only ever get tiddly cobwebs & they get done with dustpan & brush.

I remove them when they are dirty so do not function as a fly trap
