Do not forget that "Courage grows with a wound" and there are plenty fought under the banner of Stewart!....... and I do not favor Independance either.
Spook, "Virescit vulnere virtus" 'Courage grows strong at a wound' and the battle of Flodden was a victory of bill over pike, the english billhook with its blade beating the scottish pike.
The reason he was named Flodden was that my last dog was Bosworth, the next main battle in British history was Flodden, a small Northumbrian village, Bedlingtons come from Northumberland. So the battle theme continued in my dogs names. I have been told by my Scottish brother in law, that when I take him to their house he is to be called Floddy, not Flodden as it is rather a sore point in Scotland.
in my experience Hadrians wall should never have been breached The northern Bedlingtons and the southern Bedlingtons are very different to look at because of their trims, and the working trim is very different from the showing trim. They have not really changed that much over the years.
Totally hijacking the thread here with my random memories - but many years ago I was part of a team re-enacting the battle of Flodden as part of the half-time entertainment at an American Football Match (can't remember the teams, but there was some famous (apparently) American Football player called "The Fridge"). I was on the Scots side, pretending to be a man, wearing a lovely plaid and looking very Braveheartish!
