Cod liver oil

Following on from the posting regarding feed supplementing, what do you lot think about cod liver oil, I was told to give vegetable cooking oil instead, as cod liver oil isn't natural for them as horses wouldn't eat fish in the wild, comments ?

It helped all the riding school ponies where I used to work and I saw a marked improvement with my 12.2hh and his stifle locking in winter.

Most of my yard feed vegetable ol of some description rather thancod liver oil and it is som much cheaper and none of us have had any problems.

My Vet advised me to put my mine on Soya ot Corn oil as it is good store of energy

I currently use cod liver oil but I'm going back to vegetable oil as it's cheaper

Plus I have to say I haven;t noticed a difference between the two performance wise.
