Coffin joint changes.

Does anyone have any experiance with Mild Coffin Joint changes and narrowing of one side of the joint?

What symptoms did your horse present with and was there any added soft tissue damage?

Horse going to have an MRI next week.

Plan is Arthrimed into both joints, and once we know of any soft tissue issues then treat and rehab them.

My mare responded very well to arthramid in both front coffins. She had mild early arthritic changes. That was late 2019. She nerve blocked as slightly lame in both fronts and had poor foot balance (low toe, low heel) from her registered EPA trimmer .

I suggested getting an MRI to see what, if any, soft tissue damage there was but vet said that as I self insure to crack on with the arthramid first. As she responded so well, I never did get her MRI'd.

Hi, my horse had suspected mild coffin joint changes as she blocked to the joint but nothing showed on x ray. Turned out to be soft tissue , most likely the ddft. She also had Negative palmer angles.
She is now sound and back in light work after 8 months off in the field and transitioning to barefoot. I use boots and pads.

Symptoms were intermittent lameness, light pulses, toe pointing which eventually led to consistent worsening lameness and actually holding her RF in the air.

I didnt mri as not insured and the transport alone would've costed a grand. You are definitely doing the right thing with the mri, in hindsight i would've saved money just doing The mri and not spending ££££ on remedial shoes and coffin joint injections that didnt work.

Ive used arthramid in hocks and its excellent stuff, highly recommend. (Didn't work in coffin joint obviously as soft tissue injury present).

Foot balance is very important. Some horses do well in shoes with 3d pads and impression material and some do better barefoot with pads. Good luck!

Thanks both, he is barefoot, has been his entire life and we are not looking at remedial shoeing untill its the last thing to try. Vet is happy with how hard his hooves are but he is starting to grow oddly on fronts which is a change in the last few months.

Only signs at the moment is behaviour issue under saddle out hacking, still not totally sure its just down to this, and a slight reluctance to move forward.

Zoeypxo, you’ve reminded me that prior to the arthramid jabs my mare often had pulses too. I presumed and worried at the time that she was grass sensitive.
They’ve calmed right down since then (31/2 years ago).

Thats great the arthramid has lasted so long!
Im a year post injection for hocks and no further symptoms as of yet

Mine had slight changes in both fronts after arthramid he was sound he was shod in front initially but I've now taken them off as he was tripping and not walking properly, he immediately walked properly the day the shoes were removed that was about 14 weeks ago.

He was treated last June and is still sound.

Although he fractured the side toe of his pedal bone last Christmas and his hoof has grown weird since, the heels became underun and long toes but I'm hoping the barefoot will help sort that out.
