Try taking the shoes off before you have your horse put down.

My horse has degenerative joint syndrome in his coffin joints on his fronts. He started off having steroid injections strait into the joints which worked brilliantly and kept him sound for a solid 6 months. He also had regular visits from a chiropractor/vet who would also give him rounds of acupuncture which he loves! However once the insurance maxed out it was down to us to decide what to do next and as the steroid injections into the joints were ridiculously expensive, we decided to give it a try to just 'manage' the problem. I noticed that he would start to struggle as soon as the ground got hard in the summer so he is now kept in at night all year round. He tends to go all through the winter with no bouts of lameness as the ground is always so wet and soft. He is still going strong 3 years after his diagnosis and is still in full time work.
