Im going to my first xc tommorrow .Im going to do novice course 1 9 and if all goes well 2 6 but this course has double with coffin in the middle of double:eek::).I have only ever sj and done jump cross and dont know what to expect .Any tips

See how you go in the 1'9" first - you can kick over that from a standstill if you need to...

If you do the bigger one with the coffin, come in slower - show jumping speed - with lots of leg and a good contact. Allow the horse to see the jumps. Sometimes they don't see the ditch until the last minute and spook, so don't sit too forward - keep slightly behind the movement and be ready to kick hard if any hesitation, and also be ready for a big jump over the ditch. Most go over with no problems, so don't worry about it or that will make the horse wonder whats coming up.

Enjoy yourself. XC is great fun!

Do not look down into the ditch!! it will unbalance you. So look up, be prepared for a sudden stop but keep your leg on. It won't be big and your horse will be able to step over it. Don't rush your horse at it either - as above, SJ canter or good trot just to get over!

Enjoy and don't forget to post how you did!

Double and coffin is only on 2 6 so cant practice over little one first. There is a ditch on 1 9 so will judge that first and see what her reactions are.As for big kicks shes very nervous and will probably leap 4ft if I boot her lol. Thanks for tip she will run on adrenaline so have to keep her very focused and steady.Maybe do 1 9 first time out and do some training days :)

Still in one piece lol.Only did the 1 9 as she was so agitated .Poor thing was white with froth and needed a good wash down, she is very nervous and it took her about 6 jumps before she realised what she was supposed to do.The ditch was a disaster had to give up as had horse coming up behind me.On a plus she was coaxed into the water and cantered through. Two refusals but she went over with lead when horse passed. She was fab with horse in front but jumping into fields with post and rail was very confusing.
I had great day and really enjoyed it but everything was very scary as the jumps were rustic and not coloured poles. Here is link not a good photo but she refused so I was being very reserved:D
