really stupid question, but what is cold-shoeing?

i always thought it was normal shoeing but with cold shoes rather then forged shoes? but then someone at the yard said it was uncomfortable for the horses, and i don't know why...

please help!

hot shoeing - the shoes are heated and shaped/adjusted to your horses hoof
cold-shoeing - the shoes are shaped cold with a hammer and anvil

i dont know why it would be uncomfortable any more than hot shoeing!

Mmm don't know .My lot aren't bothered about cold shoeing or hot shoeing.
I know some people believe hot-shoeing better for showing and stay on longer but have never really noticed any different on that and don't show so may or may not be true!
Hot shoeing suppose will get a better fit as could shape shoe to fit hoof.

Pickle is usually hot shod purely because it is easier with his HUGE feet, but most the horses at my yard are cold shod without any problems!
