I have always had my horses hot shod so cold shoeing is all a bit new to me. My new mare, Samba, was shod yesterday but as the smoke came out from her foot she just flung her self backwards and looked petrified so farrier said he would cold shoe her. BUT she does have soft and brittle feet, again a new thing to me is cold shoeing bad for this type of hoofys ?

She was fine to cold shoe and it didnt bother her.

But is there anything I need to worry about having her cold shod? What are the pros and cons?

I think I could with time and patience maybe get her hot shod but shes a stubborn little welsh madam. Oh and heres a picy of the lovely lady. Any advice, tips or suggestions appreciated.

ohhh i like :) Welsh :D:D mare:D:D:D
Lucy was cold shod for years. Even after she had lami and her feet went all crumbly. Sorry i realy don't know the ins and outs of shoeing but just wanted to say Lucy was fine being cold shod. :D

I asked my farrier about this once when rosie was a baby and just getting used to shoes. He cold shod her at first so as not to scare her with smoke.

He said that hot shoeing just makes it far easier on the farrier themselves i.e not so hard on the arms etc when shaping the shoe. He said made no difference really to the horse
