Cold Winter, much worse than last year......

Ive been snowed in on my birthday before - early march - and we are in the midlands, so dont count your chickens!!
More than likely this mild weather will turn and mid/late Jan - early Feb will see some cold weather and a bit of snow. Quite concerning that the seasons are so out of kilter!

I've got 6 beehives at my yard, all the bees have come out of hibernation and are buzzing around like crazy. The primroses and snowdrops are up and in flower. Oh, and there are great clouds of midges hovering over the swamp that used to be my field...!

I reckon it just goes in cycles. We get really heavy snow about every 20-30 years - I mean a really bad winter like 1945, 1963-4, 1981-2, 2010-11 (wasn't around for the first two - well only just born in the 2nd lot!) - there were a couple of bad winters in the late 70s too I seem to remember. Sometimes we get a run of good summers, sometimes we have wet ones for a few years - I'm sure we're due for a good summer this year!

In the 17th century (can't remember which year) Samuel Pepys says there was an unusually mild winter and that there were blackberries in January:- - weird winters are nothing new!
