Hello, I have a question for anyone that has the time to read this!
My horse had tendon/ligament surgery last Monday and is currently on box rest, came home on Thursday as they thought he would be more settled in his own stable. Vet said they were a bit concerned that day as he wasn't himself, very quiet (normally very buzzy, full of energy) but his temperature etc were fine so let him go home. Since, he's still not been himself and yesterday he seemed particularly down, presumed this was the effects of general anaesthetic and so didn't worry. Today, he's not eating his hay, hasn't touched his water and has done one very small poo. Just had a touch of his tummy which he wasn't at all happy about. Kicked out, threw up his head and swished tail etc, normally he's very friendly, never has his ears back but today he's looking very grumpy and lost his spark. He's never been one to lie down much, but today he is covered in shavings on both sides, not sure if he has been rolling or just having a lie down. Prior to surgery he was on box rest in same routine and used to eat all his dinner, hay and drink 1 3/4 buckets of water a day, wasn't grumpy either.
Im concerned as to whether this is signs of colic or not, the vet is out midday tomorrow to change his bandage but concerned about his current state. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. (Sorry for essay!) TIA
