Friends pony was moved over the weekend, walked a few miles to new field the evening by the next lunch time he was showing signs of colic

New field has a fair amount of grass compared to the winter field he was in, when I saw him he was very relaxed and full looking and trying to wee but couldn't -vet didn't know why he was doing this but I have since read its a tell tale sign of colic. I didn't know that one but would have thought vet should/would ??

Anyway I'm due to have pony next week and am worried that he will colic again on our grass. I have paddocks without long lush grass as its been eaten down but not bald. I'm think to put him out during the day there and bring him in at night for the first week and keep an eye on him , when he then moved to lush grass I have a greenguard muzzle until the grass reduces and can bring him in at anytime.

Anything anyone else can think of or advise as would hate for him to have colic again:(

Vet had advised that he stay out last night on the grass ?

I would make any changes in grazing slowly especially if there is more grass in a field than he is used to. And if he keeps swapping paddocks his guts won't get used to the richer grass. So take is slowly every time he goes back onto the lush grass.

I would just limit his time on long lush grass and just gradually extend the time over a matter of weeks, or if your really worried keep him on the balder field this is why I am not a fan of resting fields for months on end, mine get rested for a few months tops and in spring a few weeks.
