colic again, *sigh*

Mare had colic on thursday night (eating old haylage), ahd the vet out and he gave her a shot. She has since been kept in - fine yesterday, fine this morning - dirty stable and eating well. Went doen at 5pm and she was standing with her bum to the stable, head down, went to feed her - no interest. Left her with hay and she was munching it. Just been down again to chk her and she was still standing head down, breathing heavy - blowing

called the vets - whilst waiting for call back from the vet i seen on thurs i looked in on her again and she was eating hay and looking fine

told the vet over the phone and he said she was probably having cramps as it can take 4 days for the digestive system to return to normal, he has advised i chk her again in a few hours and if shes not eating again he will come down and give her pain killers.
Going back down around 10 tonight, fingers crossed she will still be okay otherwise its gonna cost over £100!!!!
I was hoping to take her on the christmas ride tomorrow afternoon but not if shes unwell

how long should i leave her for before riding her again? (shes been off for 8 days) am planning to walk her out tomorrow (leading) to stretch her legs and also it should help move things along.
 
Poor you -I would leave her several more days before riding (check with vet )A walk around tommorow wont do any harm I have found in the past that this seems to help things along .
 
Just been down to chk her and she was standing there again not eating hay, looking sorry. Listened to her stomache area and she was gurgling (good sign?) *thinks*
I offered her a slice of carrot and she ate it, and another 2 small pieces. \so cant be too bad.
She dosent look as bad as thursday - on thurs she was curling her lip and had a glazed look about her and wouldnt touch a thing plus she was cold.......she felt really warm before.
Such a worry - will be worrying all night now

Personally I think I'd have had the vet back out. Sorry. Eating a few bits of carrot isn't really that much of a test IMO. At the very least I'd go back up & check her again tonight.

How much was her tummy gurgling? While no/very little noise is bad too much noise can also be a sign of problems.
