just bumping up my post - http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5145115/an/0/page/0#5145115

Called vet at 8 pm on the phone said she was probably haning a spasm - (standing quietly not eating, no intrest in hay) after 10 mins she was stood munching hay again alot better.

Been down at 10pm to chk her- she was standing still again, no other signs of colic - ate a couple of carrots showing a bit of interest. Not eating hay, few gurgling noises when ear to stomache area.

This is my situation - i live 5 mins away in the car but i have hardly any petrol left after making 4 trips there and back today - live ages from petrol station (middle of nowhere) would prob just have enougth to get there and get back tonight but would struggle tomorrow and have no-one to take me

(will have to send someone the station with a can tomorrow)
so do i presume she should be ok and its another spasm and because shes not showing any obvious signs other than standing quietly or risk breaking down in the snow?

i can chk her at 7am? am really worried

If she was mine I wouldn't be happy to leave her from now until 7 am tomorrow, You said in the other post that she looked 'sorry' and isn't interested in food - apart from the pieces of carrot. I would be worried that she may worsen over night and it's a long time to leave her. Is there anyone at the yard who could check her a couple more times tonight? Could you phone your vet and talk it through with them? I have a mare who had similar symptoms a few weeks ago, so I know how stressful it is. Fingers crossed yours is better soon.

Is there any chance you could walk - not on your own of course but if the yard isnt far away. I would be worried about leaving her so long. Either that or go up now and sleep in your car, take a sleeping bag and a flask of coffee. Sorry maybe a bit drastic but better to be safe than sorry?

i wouldn't be happy to leave her. could you not get wrapped up and cover up with a few cozy horsey rugs and just stay for a few hours til she is looking better? have you leccy there that you could take a heater up?

am going down now to chk her again and sit and wait for a while see how she is if shes still sad will get the vet will update when i geet back, thanks everyone

staying at OHs nans house - walking distance to where shes kept, just got back from checking her, she seemed a bit more interested in me this time, still no obvious signs though. Shes nice and warm and was a bit happier.
Going to have a sleep now and chk back on her at 3am, thanks again

Hello everyone, thank you for your msgs.
Checked her throughout the night ans she was the same. Went down this morning and she had eaten her breakfast and was looking her usual self again, eating hay etc.....took her rug off to groom her and noticed a huge swelling under her belly that was mishapen and very very painful
frown.gif
called the vet and he said it was most likely a broken rib and this pain had bought on the colic/feeling unwell. I was shocked when i looked under her rug as shes deramatically lost weight and condition over the past few days

(last had her rug off monday and wasnt too bad) vet says its probably as shes been unwell. So shes now on antibiotics and bute and has 2 weeks recovery period. Shes to be turned out during the day as from tuesday and in at night. The vet has recommeneded i up her feed to - (about to start a new thread about feeding so please help if you can

) am just so glad its through injury and not diesese/worms etc.....
Thaks again everyone for your advice xxxx
