My miniature Shetland pony was caught on a fence by the back legs last Saturday, I was only able to get to him in the late afternoon so i am unsure how long he was trapped there. All day it was raining.
For the first four days he often tried rolling which I restrained him from doing so.
He suffers from griping pains. He is able to pass wind and defecate.
He has inflamed bowls and is hardly eating.
On Wednesday he started eating small amounts of hay and he has been drinking honey water to help his strength. His urine is concentrated and his breathing is better but I am not happy with the amount of time he spends lying down and trying to roll. He has administered to him: painkillers, laxatives , and massage. Please could I have some advice on what to do next?

What has the vet recommended re. further treatment.
He could have got very cold and dehydrated, I find that very wet sugar beet is a good way to get something in them or a bran mash, if you can get some bran. I would think fluids are the most important at the moment, if his urine is dark it is a sign of dehydration, can you put a rug on to keep his back warm, will he eat any grass if led out.
If he is not improving you need to get the vet back again.

he may have got a chill aswell, he will take atleast a week to get over this. a nice hot bran mash, plenty of fluids and a warm bed.

agree with this - what has the vet said?? he sounds like he could possibly have some sort of peritonitis - they would get an idea of this from a simple blood test (the white blood cell count will be very low) hopefully its not that and he recovers quickly, but it would be worth them checking when they come back if hes still low, it often shows only as an "off colour and a bit colicy"

hope he gets well soon
