just wanted to share it really,my oldest pony mare (23) went down with her second bout of colic in 4 years yesterday morning at 10am. She has been on loan to a lovely family about 10 miles away for the last 4 years.

4 emergency callouts since 10am yesterday, tubed, rectal examination and numerous jabs she fianlly started pulling through at 4am this morning. I stayed with her the whole time as did her loaners. We didn't want the trauma of her being travelled and operated on at her age and had made that clear to the vet,who was superb.

Terribly traumatic, but a huge relief.....I'm not ready to lose my 3rd in just over a year and several bouts of heartache inbetween.

(((((((sigh if relief))))))

Brilliant news!
Ours did something similar about 5 yrs ago (then aged 23). She had to have 4 visits in as many days and vet said if the last one didn't work, he wasn't sure what to do next. We too were sure we didn't want her travelled to operate on.
She's still with us - let's hope yours does just as well!

That's excellent news! I'll be keeping everything crossed for you mare to make a swift full recovery....at least now you and her loaners can relax a bit and sleep in your own beds again :-) X

Aww thats great news. I hope she continues to improve and makes a swift recovery and she doesnt have anymore set backs.

Well done on everyone who stayed there with her. I know the feeling. Its takes so much out of you. My boy had 3 months of gut troubles and coliced etc and I was there nearly all day every day for months.
