Hi guys I see this done quite a bit and wondered if I could give it a go.

Good vibes needed for Lina and baby.

(Muffa)Lina is very rarely sad or sorry I have had her for 6 years. She is currently in foal and living out 24/7. I've never seen her have signs of colic before.

Having changed her rug yesterday from a lw to a mw I was relieved this morning as I opened the curtains to our 1st frost and thick fog.

I popped down to the yard on my lunch break to check on my lady and al was fine as I ate my butties over the fence. Then I could not settle at work so managed to scive off about 4 (naughty I know) on arrival one of the girls said that Lina was lay in the mud she had got her up and she wasn't sweaty , by the time I got back to the field she was back in the mud looking very sorry for herself.

we toddled back to her stable but you know your own horse and she was not right. Que worry and confusion. Decided to call the vet the second she turned to look at her tummy. So some tubes and bute and epsom salts later and the poor vet having to clear her large bowel (vet said she could feel the babies head and hat to move it out of the way) out by hand she seems better. A few trumps later and we are hoping that she has not impacted. I think she is feeling better as she grabbed at a minging soggy bit of hayledge off the floor on the way back to her stable still doped up.

3 hours later I am now home being forced to eat beans on toast before being aloud to go back to check up on her.

I didn't know frost could cause colic- has anyone heard of this before ??

Also worried about baby and the drugs too any experience with colic and preggers mares ?

Sorry to hear this, I hope your mare and unborn baby are ok, yes frost is a problem regards colic, same as it is a massive problem for laminitics, grass is just a frigging nightmare i have come to conclude

Hope she is feeling better. I have heard that frost can cause colic but have never experienced it with any of mine. Touches wood!!

Huge vibes for you and Lina <<<<<<>>>>>>

Not frost, per se, but I know if FB is going to get colic it is usually just as the weather turns cold. It is because he drinks much less in colder weather and in the south he was fed on oat straw as his forage, which is very dry, so he would get impaction colic. Touch wood, he will be OK this year as he has hay and the climate is much wetter genereal here. I used to put one of those little cartons of apple juice in his water bucket to encourage him to drink enough.

Maybe Lina is the same and because she has an increased need for fluids with the foal to sustain, she isn't drinking enough? Just an idea.

She has never lived out before - vet said it is less likely in horses that live out as they build up in immunity plus no hard feed to get impacted etc even suggested she might be better spending the night in the field rather than staying in but I just couldn't do it.

A few tears have been shed , having to wait for the vet on my own in the dark and cold was the most stressed I have ever been - I would be so lost with out her

So glad I called the vet and so glad I bunked off wok early if it had been dark I might not have noticed all the signs + I have to come home over Runcorn bridge which was on the news tonight with massive tail backs !

Hope your mare gets better soon. Lucky you went to check her early. I hate getting that gut feeling that something is wrong as it normally turns out to the true, particularly when it involves the horses. Have a nice glass of wine once you have been back to check her.

Hi guys just got back from the farm - no poos but a couple of trumps. Shes much much brighter now.

Vet said its a little early for it to have worked and there will be a lot of gas floating around. hopefully we will not have to go through it all again in the morning - pray for poos people x
