My own horse colicked today , cue vet at stupid a clock this am , this afternoon another one set off and by seven was showing signs of been more painful , just got in from Leahurst now , spoke to numerous people who had colics last few days !! Mentally exhausted with every 2 hour checks with my own and then trying to get this other one to emergency vets , never known so many colics !! X

Sorry to hear this- hope the horses have improved and you have been able to sleep . Please post an update. Best wishes.

Hope both are ok it's been a tough year I think colic has been a huge issue this winter my mare also coliked but that was stress related but day I moved her to new place the lady that owns yard had to rush a pony into vet as it had colic thankfully it's ok now
Hate colic :(
Lost my boy to colitis :(

Mine coliced a couple of weeks back, I have had him seven years and only once has he ever had mild colic that passed on its own! We have also had another on the yard colic. The vet that attended mine said they have been inundated with them over the last two weeks with the drastic change in temp! We have gone from 10 degrees to minus over 48 hours so they weren't drinking as much with the frozen water.

Two older ponies have both had mild spasm of colic this weekend, we saw one of them eating snow, don't know it this helped! Owner is making sloppy feeds with hot water and adding hot water to water buckets, was not bad enough to call vet, both seem ok this afternoon. I think it's to do with weather and seasons.

A week ago today my 5 year old girlie went out into the field fine callled her back in less than an hour later and she was not right , wouldnt eat and vet diagnosed colic although the symptoms were not text book she was just very quiet and not eating then led down also a muscle or vein twitching in the side eof her neck ,follow up blood test shows she is now fine.

My boy colicked last week for the first time ever. Thankfully not too bad but needed the vet and painkillers. He'd had an hour turnout in the arena as he's currently on box rest and came in just 'not right'. Vet said he'd seen loads over the last couple of weeks. Worried me sick but thankfully it passed and he seems tip top again now.

Mine coliced this afternoon - no changes in field or management, and we made sure the clock changes didn't affect field haying times etc. He's 11, never had colic before even when he and a pal broke into a bag of unsoaked Speedibeet a few years ago.

The vet said he was the third one she'd been called to over the last two days in a fairly small local practice.

It seemed to be gas, no impactions, blockages or inflammation that the vet could feel.

Mine too. She lives out / eats mainly forage but has just had her first ever colic attack starting Friday night / Saturday morning. I'm due to pick her up from the vets tomorrow morning. :)

One friend's yearling colicked a couple of months back (fortunately fine) and sadly another friend's horse colicked a couple a weeks ago, she'D ridden him that morning all fine and they lost him that night, incredibly sad. My farrier told me he knows of fourteen horses lost to colic this winter. I am now warming the water for my two on really cold days as a precaution, it's just so scary.

I have been giving mine buckets of molassed warm water morning, noon and evening since this started, which from the number of buckets I am having to carry seems years ago.

Due to the wet year we have had it is possible that mycotoxins could be responsible:( They are a hidden problem which no one looks for or really knows about but they are likely to gain significance over the next year 18 months as feed and hay/haylage from the wet weather we have had enter the food chain.

Have a look on this webiste for more details - as you can see colic is one of the known problems

Aargh, no, don't make me even more paranoid! The vet did mutter "mycotoxins" and I said "please don't say stuff like that", so she laughed nervously

Hope yours are ok. Mine came home on Friday after being at horse hospital since Monday with colic. Fingers crossed he is doing well now. Vets were saying it's the weather.
