As it seems that vets have been extremely busy with colic's of late, I thought I'd start a poll to see how widespread this is!

My horse, until last Nov, has never had colic and now the slightest little thing sets him off....

He was one of those horses that you could feed anything too, chuck out on lush grass etc etc, has been regularly wormed etc etc but now throws himself on the floor at the slightest little thing doing the I'm a TB with a poorly tummy!

It seems that colic is on the increase this year!
 
"Numerous" bouts would be putting it a bit too strongly but he's had two bad attacks this year (the first one we were lucky to avoid hospital, he had us very worried about him) & had me thinking he was a bit colicky a couple more times, though luckily a walk round seemed to fix these.
 
Chex *touch wood* has never had it yet (in 9 years) so I really am not that clued up on it, so I'd always call teh vet immediately. I can spot it quicly, especially if I know the horse well though. Last time Chex field mate had it I was googling on my phone to see if yawning was a sympton lol, as she was fine apart from off her feed and yawning (and it is

we have bouts of it, but since the biggi a couple of years ago we haven't had any thing that I felt needed the vet. When we were discharged from the RVC at potters bar they gave me "hints and tips" to deal with a mild bout before it escalates.

I have got to know my horses well and know when they have a tummy. When we have a moment I do tend to monitor closely, but usually a packet of mints and a lunge and a good fart seems to do the trick
