please send positive vibes had vet out as i knew my mare was not right ,lethargic depressed and uninterested in hay and obviously uncomfortable.she has diagnosed spasmodic colic and given anti spasmodic and advised 30 min walk for meds to take effect and checks over night.she has been hyperventilating ,not sure if this is side effect of meds or stress, and no idea of cause as everything is the same she is not prone to colic i have had her 5 years and only 1 other episode of impacted colic due to sress after having ligament surgery. i am an over anxious owner after losing my last horse 6 years ago. any advice.or experience gratefully recieved and positive vibes needed please

Vibes from me too.

The rapid breathing is probably due to her tum being painful. If it's any comfort 90% of colics are non-surgical and spasmodic colic is very common (just looked it up in my notes for you!).

Colic is an alarming word that strikes fear into all owners because of the stories we hear of the worst cases. But before you get too panicky, try to remember that it's just a general word for belly ache! Hopefully that is all she has, and she'll be feeling better soon.

thank you all for the support. i was up several times in the night to check her and the injection seems to have worked she was much brighter and looking out as normal. she has had hay and gone out as normal as vet advised and just keeping a very close eye on her. she is not prone to colic and i am unsure what has caused this, also it has brought back scary memories of my last horse who had impacted colic and surgery.she made a good recovery but i became paranoid over amount and consistancy of droppings and i worry about my horses anyway something like this tipps the balance again.sadly ny previos horse died ,unrelated to colic but i now always think the worst and sometimes wonder if i shoud keep them as it is so emotionally exhausting.it does help to offload to others who can probably understand.
