You would be far better to use Nexium or Ranitidine - available over the counter for humans - if you notice a positive difference after a week then that would point to ulcers.

The ulcers need to be treated first, usually omeprazole, and then the fore and hind gut supported with a supplement. I rate Egusin, from Forageplus.
 
None. For potential ulcers find the cause - sabe your money for your insurance excess and get a performance work up done.
Having been through the long slow process of finding out, thus my advice to save you time and money

No, she hasn't been scoped. Yes, I know there are a few posts about it. Sorry for looking at options. Some of us can't fork out a tonne of money to get them scoped unfortunately. There isn't anything else wrong with her, she's been checked. Plus, I think the Ulsasoothe is starting to work. I know of one reason she may have got them and that's from going to a loan home for a few months with the last owner and came back very skinny so obviously had a lot of exercise with little food. She has always been funny with her belly being touched, I've known her for years before she was mine and she was a field ornament for 4 years. My insurance company don't pay upfront to vets and I can't afford to go ahead and just do it when there are cheaper options that will sooth them if they're there for now.
Also, not looking to see if any of these things will treat ulcers, I know they won't. I want to know what people thought was best.

I had my boy scoped and after treating peptizole I had him on Protexin Acid Ease just while I was weaning off the peptizole and then weaned him off that and popped him on the Protexin Gut Balancer as doesn't reduce the acid just maintains gut health - actually this winter we have had no runny poos so it must be doing something! My vet said the supplements are all a bit of a money making scheme (but what isn't when it comes to horses) and the most important thing is to make sure they have a raft of hay/chaff before ridden to prevent splashing. My boy's were most likely pain related due to arthritic hocks that have now been medicated (and that he is a bit of a stressy cob). I still like to have him on a supplement though as it just makes me feel a little better and he seems to do OK!

If you join the Equine Gastric Ulcer Support group and Horses with Ulcers groups on Facebook they have some helpful tips. Anecdotally, it's recommended to feed Alfalfa as a buffer (though some horses don't take to it very well). My boy is on mash now but before he had Alfa A (didn't suit him as it was making him tubby), Dengie Healthy Tummy (was doubling up on supplements so was cheaper to feed separately) and Topspec Ulsakind Cubes (again, doubling up and made him tubby).

I find it is a bit trial and error which is annoying. I've heard good things about Coligone and also personally from using the Protexin stuff. Never saw a difference with Pink Powder when he had it for his squits, to be honest I don't really rate much of the NAF stuff from personal experience!
