Let moo out this morning and fed her as usual but she didn't want it(very unlike her) went out to clean the garden to find it covered in blood rushed back inside to tell oh and kitchen was covered in sick, cleaned all up went outside to find garden covered in blood again to say I was panicking would be an understatement. Got her to vets who said it colitis (sp) so now back at home on strong antibiotics looking very sorry for ourself. I've been told to feed her on chicken rice and pasta and take her on Tuesday for a check up. Has anybody else dealt with this, I thought she was going to die with the amount of blood she was passing, tho it does seem to be easing a bit now.

It's a very common problem and usually occurs when the dog has over loaded on food which it does not usually eats, scavengers and sometimes foods they are sensitive too.
The colitis (blood and mucus) is produced due to inflammation in the bowel as the diarrhoea is passing through, a little like IBS In humans.
Has she had anything different? it can also appear when a dog becomes anxious/stressed?

Lil had colitis after having something from my grandmother, I forget what, probably a lamb bone/liver - something like that.

She had treatment from the vet and was fine afterwards - so don't worry.

Now she doesn't get anything so fancy, just chicken, from my nan ;)

Thanks for the replies. I'm very funny with what I give her, she's always been on the same food and it's very rare she gets treats, when she does they're proper dog ones, and I don't give her table scraps. But sayin that she is a rotty and will pick anything up off the floor. She has made friends with the builders over the back wall so was wondering if they had given her anything. And she's a great fan of bird seed which my parrot drops for her, so even tho I'm careful it could have been any number of things(she's licking fluff off the carpet as I type:mad:) but fingers crossed. It was the blood that scared me most I'm a bit wimpy when it comes to my own animals anyone elses I'm fine lol
