Hi, anyone any experience with this? My aged Golden Retriever started with this in August, been to the vets who suggested a change of diet and was given some tablets and a paste to calm her stomach.

It has took ages to get the right feed as whatever we tried set her off again, she has lost alot of weight but still has a good appetite and is alert.

Since August she has had numerous flare ups but last night was so bad, she had us up every two hours, i have never seen so much stuff come out of a dog and she is miserable.

I am going to get a vets appointment today and see what they say, she is 13 and we are reluctant to have loads of tests on her.

Any advice?
 
I had a weimaraner who suffered with colitis....he was basically allergic to chicken and beef, so his diet was mainly duck or salmon based foods. I found wainwrights was one of the best for him.

He still had the occasional flare up when he got hold of something he shouldn't have, but an injection from the vet(I forget what it was called now....), and his tummy generally settled down.

You (and she) have my sympathy though.....the smell of a colitis flare up and the resulting mess is something that turns my stomach!!
 
Any tests for pancreatic issues/blood/allergy tests? what diet is she on now? I take it she has not gotten hold of anything she should not have to set her off again?

No, no tests done as yet, she is on dried 'wheat free' food, its called Wainrights Salmon & Potato, she has always been on dried food and yes, she could have quite easily picked something up, she comes to the yard with me on occasions so its quite possible something off the muck heap!

With her being 13 we did not want to go down the tests route but looks like we may have too, poor girl.
 
My older dog is on the same food (Wainwrights 7+ salmon and potato), it seems to keep his various allergies stable, he is still very scratchy but not removing all his hair, and his stools are OK.

You could also try something like the Chappie tins which are very plain and good for sensitive tums.
 
A CC sugests chappie may be a better diet incase she needs lower fat food, you could maybe give that a go b4 tests (given her age). maybe introducing it into the wainrights then just the chappie alone, chappi original both the meat and dry if she needs weight on, but if she has been stable on the wainwrights then maybe she has picked something up? and def a trip to vets as they may also want to gove her something now to help clear her up check her over in the midst of trying the diet change.
 
Thanks for your replies, have got some Canikur Pro to settle her stomach, once settled will try her on a bit of Chappie with her dried food & see how she goes.
