Colitis

Yes. I had a mare that was on high doses of Danilon for laminitis (she has since been diagnosed with Cushings). I walked into the stable one day to see a HUGE swelling under her belly. Vet came out and said it was a ventral oedema and wanted a blood test. Test showed protein levels were low as her gut wasn't working properly and protein/fluid was leaking out. She was taken into Leahurst Equine Hospital and her colon was scanned which showed thickening. She was put on a short fibre diet for nearly two months (no hay or grass) and when her colon was rescanned the thickening had gone. She was then very slowly reintroduced to grass / grazing. Recovered completely and no further problems.
