Hi everyone

My youngest pony has had a few lumps for a while and the vet suspects collagen necrosis and to just leave them alone unless they start bothering him. One on his side has erupted and the core was visible so I squeezed it out.

He's suddenly started trying to savage me when being tacked up and has developed a load of bumps right under his belly just behind his front legs. He's tried to hoof me when I just try to touch them so I think they must be bothering him although he's a quirky little thing and you can never be sure what he's thinking.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Is there anything I can do before getting the vet out, primarily to make him more comfortable if they are bothering him.

Thanks

one of mine had this and was very itchy. he was given several weeks of steroid tablets by the vet to reduce the inflammation and loads of the bumps went down. he has been on linseed ever since as the omega oils are meant to help the skin. after about 6 months most of the lumps that remained and were hard had popped and i squeezed the core out.

3 years down the line we have had no further flare ups and are just left with 2 hard lumps which i suspect will remain but you can only feel not see them and they dont cause him any issue. we have gone from thousands of lumps to two !

has your vet biopsied the lumps, mine did to confirm diagnosis before giving steroids, was a relatively easy procedure

No he has yet to have a biopsy as the advice was to just leave alone. Thank you for sharing your experience, will ring them and see what they want to come and do.
