Ok I have a 15.2hh warmblood that is now 9yrs old and I have had since 3yrs and I backed her and brought her on. I know her history and there is nothing untoward at all.

She has now four times literally collapsed when we have put her saddle on ijn the last three months .I had her back checked and her saddle - all fine. She literally falls backwards onto her hocks and collapses down onto her knees and then falls over sideways. We have tried walking her around a bit before hand, making sure girth is not too tight or 'wrentched' up, doing the girth up in small stages. It doesn't happen every time we tack up - but when she goes - she goes ! it's quick and without warning, but not immediatly after we have put the saddle on - but a minute or two later.

Any ideas on what is happening or has anyone heard of this before ? Help !!

there is a nerve that can be trapped when you are doing the girth up so that is a good place to start.

It has also been extensively discussed with another members horse so worth reading up for all the possibilities for yours.

Hmmm.... I don't know but try a process of elimination with whole saddling process.

First, numnah then if nothing, get a surcingle that goes all the way around, if that's ok, try saddle and pretend to do girth up with surcingle.

Might help pinpoint the problem but then after that I still wouldn't be able to tell you why although I suspect it's neuropathic...

She doesn't do this everytime, and when you mount and ride she is 'as normal' she does dressage, elementary level and is fine working, circles, meduim trots - 10m circles etc, turns and circles, even on both reins and tracks up very nicely! Doesn't bauck or pull faces etc !! It's so strange !

Narcolepsy comes to mind - which is triggered by something - whether it be part of the tacking up process or something on the yard (smell / noise etc).
