hey up all,

I've just had the most horrendous experience in 23 yrs of having horses?!
I went to travel my gelding in the trailer 4 miles back to my home to clean his icky foot up with a broken Abscess - no more then 2 miles in, my poor fella collapses in a heap in the trailer!

He's fine, I got him back up and re-loaded him and doesn't seem too worried just a small scraze on his eye - but my nerves are shot as I was on my own on a busy main road?!

any one else have this horrible experience ?

Similar thing happened to my riding buddy and I years ago. We took our horses for a day out XC training and her horse did a ligament. We had to practically carry her mare onto the trailer. My friend drove and I sat on the floor of the trailer right under her horse to hold her up and stop her falling over every time the car stopped, started or went round corners (not a smart thing to do but we had no other option of getting her mare back home). Most nerve racking 30 mins of my life. Thankfully both neddy's were dead quiet but I can guarantee you I wouldn't want to do it ever again. Also was moving liveries not long after that and just as I arrived at new place and turning into steep driveway with a very sharp right hand turn, down my boy went. Luckily he was OK but I headed home for a couple of stiff vodkas after that episode.
Towing is by far my least favourite thing in the world.

I'm glad its not just me, I was shaking like a leaf !

he'd been kicking along the way which isn't anything unusual - but then in my mirrors I saw the jocky door had flapped open, low and behold his A'rse sticking out, he'd managed to curl up under the breast bar like a flipping cat - hes 16.3.

My OH has just got my a stiff rum and coke - plus side though - my old range rover didn't over heat and conk out LOL

I've just poured myself a vodka so Cheers!
My old boos was towing his racehorse once and the trailer somehow disconnected itself from his car. The trailer with horse abroad careered down a steep embankment. Horse survived relatively unscathed but was too freaked out to ever get in a trailer again so that was the end of his racing career. I was also loading a friends horse once on a rented trailer. 17.2hh crazy TB. We had just about coaxed the reluctant fella in after about an hour of trying when the tailgate collapsed with him standing on it. Took ages to get him anywhere near another trailer after that.
Hence my horrid dislike of towing. I leave it to the experts now.

My lad is an escape artist, we were moving house with 3 horses in 2 trailers, my lad was alone and behind the lead trailer, we saw his head through the wing mirrors along the side of the trailer, he had turned around so his head was over the rear ramp and was quite happily following the progress of overtaking lorries, how he did it with the partition in, god alone knows, cue a quick stop to turn him round and retie him

Yes, last weekend infact. We were on our way to a competition, as we went round a corner there was this awful scrambling and kicking, not the best at going round corners anyway, made it round the roundabout with out much noise - unusual for him.

Luckily my dad was following us and came past us flagging us over, this was just before turning onto the motorway. He said that C had gone down. Straight away started to panic, opened jockey door to see him with his back legs collapsed beneath him but he was unable to stand bcos his bum was stuck under the bar. We had to open the back ramp so he could some how get himself up - which he did! He was absolutely fine in himself, not phased by it at all and loaded perfectly on the way back, but he had cut the inside of his hind leg slightly.

Very scary.
