This is Bailey, who has been lame for almost 2 years with a collateral ligament strain. IRAP, TILDREN, remidal shoeing, joint medicated and 9 months box rest all to no avail! so off he went to Rockley Farm and into the capable hands of Nic Barker (as a last resort and literally the only chance he had left) and 4 months later i have a barefoot sound horse, who has been hunting and now out and about on the beach. He was going to be pts 6 months ago as he was hopping lame and couldn't go into a field. So please don't give up as this is a dream come true. This is a very short account of his story so if you need anymore info then pm me.

Brilliant! You must be over the moon. What a stunning boy. Amazing what natural healing powers the hoof has when allowed to function as it should. Human beings have this urge to fix things, to improve on nature, but how can you improve on milions of years of evolution?

Look at him! He looks fantastic. What a great decision you made for Bailey. All credit to you too Lainey123 for your commitment as well as the Rockly team.
Here's to many happy sound years for him.

You can't imho! But human's often think/believe they know best! :p

wow! thats fantastic news, so happy for you both. We have 'messaged' on here before as my horse had the same injury as Bailey although came 'right' with the traditional type re-hab 3years ago, BUT having gone barefoot two mths ago to improve his way of going and because i truly believe its in my horses best interests, I am amazed how much better he is going to the extent that he couldn't have been that comfortable in shoes. What i would like to know is do you intend to jump him? I liked to jump ( not big ;) - 3ft max) prior to injury and the vets said his jumping days were well and truly over, but they also said he would never be sound without bute nor would a hilly field be suitable for him to be turned out in.
Beautiful horse by the way and i am genuinely happy for you both :)

Thank you :-)

This post is mainly to highlight that collateral ligament injury is not the end and that there is another way. I only stumbled upon Rockley as he was diagnosed with navicular for the first 6 months of his lameness. Then he had an MRI and the collateral ligament was injured. So after all the poking and prodding and latest shoes and treatments and nothing worked, not even a little bit! I figured that maybe just maybe Nic had rehabbed collateral ligment strains without even knowing (as most rehab horses haven't had MRI) but she had done DDFT and navicular, so it was a shot in the dark.lol and lo and behold it has worked. And to top it off i was put right off barefoot in the early days by sooooooooo many people, professional people that is! vets, my dressage coach, by oesto who does his back (because of his shoes he had a bad back!) the list goes on. So i bit the bullet literally and sent him to Rockley and he has come back to me a fit, sound and happy horse, and he keeps up with all the shod horses on the yard no probs. They are still waiting for him to go footsore!!!!!!!!! anyway, it's a happy post and one to give those who are desperate for something to work, like i was. I would search the internet for hours and hours....unable to find but the tinest bit of info and that was from America.

I was told 6 months ago that it was the end for him and either pts or turn away and see what happens, i refused to do either :-) I am not a barefoot freak, lol, but he will never ever have shoes on again, it has been the best thing that i have ever done for him.

And a massive thank you to Nic without her none of this would have happened, totally dedicated to her horses, he was treated like one of her own :-) she is our shining star and she knows it.x

And Shirley123, yes i will jump him.xxxxxxx

What an excellent story, sooo pleased for you! My barefoot boy did pony club camp first time barefoot this summer. He went lame with tweaked suspensory last camp jumping grids and due to poor foot balance whilst shod I feel sure. Just to say he jumped grids, cross country and show jumping no problem and not a foot wrong all week. I worried he may not have grip but he was better than the shod horses. His max was probably 2ft 6.
