Sorry this is going to be a very patchy, vague query but just found out my horse has had a previous collateral ligament injury and that he shouldn't be doing any schooling at all.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this injury please?

Lots unfortunately:(
will happily pm you or search under my name or Marchtime for our experiences which were not good. However if yours has been sound for sometime maybe you may be one of the more fortunate ones. Is this the horse that went over on you the other day? Just wondered as ours would have behavoural problems out of the blue (middle of a dressage arena- rearing spinning and tried to sit on the judges car:eek:). This was always an indicator that things were playing up again.

He had a period of unsoundness last year - unexplained, he was with his sharer then as I wasn't riding him.

And yeah this is Ed, his attitude has been getting progressively worse of late and I had put it down to the spring, but he hasn't been "right" for some time.

He's 15 now.

My boy had collateral ligament damage. He was diagnosed via MRI at Liphook. He eventually went to Rockley farm after 2 years of being lame. He is now barefoot and sound and hunts, jumps hacks and schools no probs at all. Nic at Rockley is brilliant, my horse is on the blog he is Bailey W the 17hh hanovarian dun. This rather brief PM me if you want more details. But basically Nic saved my horse from being pts and even better he is back to his former glory and even better than before.xxxxxxx

He doesn't need to "go" anywhere. Nic is great but there are dozens of us on here who have done similar barefoot rehabs without the wonderful facilities that Nic has built. It helps, but it's not essential.

Nic has created a fantastic record of what she does on rockleyfarm.blogspot.com If you want to give your horse a great chance of a long and sound life (never mind what your vet and farrier are telling you) then read that blog back over a couple of years and you will see what can be done with horses that have been treated with everything and given up on by the experts.

Yes 'ditto' the above, I was told that his life was over at only 8 years old, this is him now, and like i said, hunts, jumps, dressages and hacks on average 2 hours daily, no hoof boots, just his plain ol hooves. Good luck with whatever you decide.Everyone had given up on him, except me and of course Nic.x
