I have spares of lots of tack and things, though having kept horses for decades you do end with quite a collection of stuff that 'could come in useful'.
Also you can absolutely guarantee that if something breaks it will be when repair/replace will take weeks........

Does anyone collect things? Or hoard things!
literally I have everything, or two of… I have one good saddle and two spares lol umpteen saddle pads etc …
Anyone needs to borrow anything, I usually have it ??
Im terrible ?

I'm worst with bits... Bitsup.jpg
Most will never go near a horse again, some probably haven't for 50 years... I also never throw anything away so have a fair collection of most things, a lot pretty useless, but is either of sentimental value or 'might come in handy for something'. I don't do the saddlepad collection thing thank goodness or I'd be snowed under.

Ohh dear I am guilty as charged!

I have only just now in the last few months got round to getting rid of the stuff from when I lost my two old veterans, which was pre-Covid. Somehow it all has just hung around in the tack-room and I'm only just now getting through all the clutter to e-bay it.

Also I seem to collect tatt from charity & second-hand tack shops. Again cluttering the place up and I have to admit that those size 10 natty little jods that I bought a few years ago are just NEVER gonna fit me....... sadly.

I gave up counting my rugs years ago when I reached 100 and have certainly added to them over the years. I also have to own up to having a 'spare' tack room for all of my stuff that I don't use anymore. I do think I should sell most of it but never seem to get around to it.

I don’t collect stuff as such, but if a nice bit comes into my possession, it probably never leaves again. I mean, one day I might own something which needs a 4.75” loose ring french link with a curved mouth as opposed to the same thing with a really straight mouth, so I’d best have both ready!

It does mean I can bit almost anything that ever arrives.

(I do collect old weird nickel bits and hand forged steel ones but they go on the wall, not near a horse.)

It is so tempting isn't it? I can't 'commit' to a colour scheme long term. I love, love it when I buy a new saddle pad, that is the 'best colour' but then a few month's later I see another one in a different colour. It is like being hypnotised o_O pretty..... I have numerous saddle pads and brushing boots, 5 different forms of cavesson nosebands just for my bridle and don't get me started on blingy browbands! I make my own, buying the empty channel browbands and adding sparkly colours, dependant on my latest colour craze. And this doesn't include the endless bits, some never used. However.. for me, I bought second hand short boots on eBay and my jodphurs are not new in any form. I am a bit like lady and the tramp :D

I have a nice pelham that my old boy used to use, the previous lady used On him, i tried to change to a snaffle but he was so used to it, felt harsh hacking in a pelham ?

i think I might put it in a frame

My old lad’s pelham is hanging on the wall, a picture hook on each cheek, and it’s got three of his best rosettes hanging off of it, one from the mouthpiece itself and one from each curb ring.

We used to - until we had a fire in the stables/tack room that destroyed everything. No horses were in there at the time but it was an extremely intense fire and the only things left were my husbands bicycle chain, bits and D rings from rugs.

When we were completing our insurance it was clear 75% of the gear that had been in there was not being used. So we created a new rule. Every item that came into the tack room another item had to leave.

I had some stunning bridles and my childhood saddle we lost in the fire and I now think of how foolish I was to keep these items when I wasn’t using them. I should have given them away so that someone else could have enjoyed them.

I give lots of horse gear away now.

I have what I was told was a donkey bit. So old it's almost falling apart and even if it were sound, you'd never put it near an equine of any descrption any more!

Yes my friend. She's given me countless rugs over the years, and when I was going to borrow a saddle from her for present horse who came without she had four to choose from. She has about a million bits and countless bits of leatherwork, boots and other objects. I keep offering to sell them for her at the horsey car boot but we never got that far.

I sometimes sell but rather keep it just in case lol
