Collecting a Urine Sample...

Is there any time particularly that he likes to wee? If so lurk about with bucket & quickly stick it under the stream when he starts to go, then decant into a plastic bottle using a funnnel & screw top on tight :D

Ps, don't accidentally mistake for apple juice next time u are thirsty :D

Clean bucket when you bring in from field? My mare always does one as soon as she comes in. Put some into a container and take to Vets as soon as you are able. They usually like them to be fairly fresh....

You need MID stream if at all possible, and the cleanest of clean pot possible!

You can attach a pot to the end of a long stick and obviously wait until said pony is weeing and then place it under him mid stream.

don't keep it for a long time 24 hours max really like with all bodily fluids they lose their potency and breakdown.

I've always got my wee samples in the same day they've been asked for.

I had to put mine on the walker for 15 minutes and wait outside of his stable for him to wee before diving in with a bucket to catch it before decanting it into a pot. Luckily the vet was still at the yard seeing to another horse so I was able to give him the pot before he went back to the surgery

Plastic supplements tub, rinsed out with boiling water (Vets instructions), plastic gloves or supermarket carrier bag over your hand and a lot of patience :) Helps if it is an IR horse who can't resist a bit of straw bedding. Mine was for using a dip strip so I didn't need to keep it but if you use a supplement tub they generally have a lid so you don't need to decant into something else.
Didn't your vet advise on how and how to keep?

Thank everyone :) Well, the problem is that he is seeing too much so I shouldn't have a problem of being around when he is going!

JillA - Yes, vet did advise. She said, put it in a fridge, didn't say how long it could stay there though until it went off though. So will make a plan of when I can do it and then drop it off.

My mare decided that I must be a pervert but as she was midstream there wasn't much she could do about it. She was very suspicious whenever I went near her with a bucket in my hand, though for quite some time!

I had to do this a couple of years ago when my lad was having the same problem. I had a nightmare for a couple of weeks trying to catch some. Jumping off on hacks, only for him to stop mid flow and get all shy.
In the end he had to be catheterised to get some.
Hope you have better luck!
