Going to Bensons owner today after work to pick up the box of ashes they got for me. Its been 14 months since the accident, and its only now I feel I can face it.
Tommorrow we are taking him to the set aside where we used to excercise with the p2p race horses. I was very jealous of them jumping the schooling fences up there, they were too big for us, so as a surprise, they built a little one for us. 2ft6 mini p2p fence, with the wings and everything. That will be his final resting place for us.

Oh Benson, that is so poignant. Well done, that must be as huge step forward for you. I hope it will also provide some closure to the all the horrid memories but keeping the lovely ones to the fore, he will always be with you and we all know you have been to hell and back but at last you can move on with your new baby and enjoy life again one day at a time. Obviously more tears will be shed but I hope you will be able to visit his special place and feel close to him and that it will help you, bless you all xx

{{{{hugs}}}} :( Hope you feel better knowing where he will 'be' and what a lovely sounding spot! Bet you two had an absolute blast there in happier times x

I remember he first time we jumped that jump, I fell off!!! He took himself back along the pilgrims way, across a dual carriage way, back through the village to the yard we had come from! With my OH chasing him for about 1.5 miles!

And those are exactly the memories you should remember. xxxxxxx

edited to add.... didnt mean falling off!!! hope you didnt hurt yourself.....just meant as oppose to the curcumstances at the end xxx

still waiting to go to trial. We have a 3 week warning date from april 25, which means anytime in the following 3 weeks we could be called to court. As he has pleaded not guilty, we have got to give evidence, which I am not looking forward to, but at least I can have my say.

Thank you.

NOT GUILTY :eek::mad::eek:

REALLY!!!!!

Some people.
Keep us updated, we are all here to help you through it. Giving evidence and re living it won't be easy but if it gets a result, then it'll be worth it.

Keep thinking of the good times and i'm sure Donovan has a big shoulder for you. :)

Hugs to you, you are being very brave.

Its been 10 years for me since I lost my horse in a terrible way, I still have not looked at the box of ashes, I still cant face it.

Well, he is here at home with me now. I collected him after work, and drove back to the yard...couldnt really see where I was going through the tears!! We drove along our last hack route, remembering the cantering in the fields.
When we got to the yard, I went and got Donovan, and (now, I know this probably sounds completely like I have lost the plot!!!:o:o) but I stood in the stable stroking Donovan with one hand, and cuddling Benson with the other. The only time my 2 boys will ever be together, and I will remember that moment.
My God my hay fever is bad!!!! Eyes wont stop watering!!!....;);)

My eyes are watering at the thought of it all. Big hugs to you - how lovely it was to have your two chaps together 80) I hope you get some closure out of this, and that the court case goes well x

Thinking of you, with another bad attack of 'hayfever'.

Just please remember to let us know when the trial is - then we can all sit here on the day sending out positive vibes for you and negative vibes for the ******* driver.

It is very rare that a thread or post on the forum will make me well up, but this one has. I am so sorry about your horse, and I think that his final resting place sounds idyllic. How kind of the p2p'ers to build you a mini jump! I don't know the story behind your loss but from the sounds of things the car driver needs to step up and take responsibility for his actions, am I right in thinking you can never ride again? Sorry if I am being insensitive.

Sanolly, you are right, I will never ride again. We were hit by a car last feb whilst out hacking, Benson, my loan horse died at the scene, and Charlie, my new one was put down a few weeks later from his injuries. I broke my back, and my friend who was riding Charlie, who was also Bensons owner hurt her hip and shoulder.
Its my choice I wont ride again, I trusted bens 100% and cant imagine trusting another the way I did him.
But he is now resting under the trees by his jump. It was a beautiful morning, the pointers were up there, and it was quite poignant to here the thunder of their hooves as we buried his ashes. It was almost as if he was there.
