I always wondered how people managed to accumulate so many Saddles with just one horse... now I know!

I have at least one, if not two that I am struggling to shift! Both perfectly good, nearly new saddles that just don't fit my horse... I'm sick at the thought of having to buy a new one again!!

Anyone else in the same boat?

Oh yes .... I took 3 to my local saddler last year to be sold, and I have a brand new Wintec that my OH said he would pop on ebay for me .... a year ago!

Oh, I nearly fotgot, I have got a western saddle, bridle etc that I need to sell too ..... :D

Ive got a few that I should sell, but a) too lazy to advertise properly b) then I think, for what they cost and for the peanuts Id get for them its not worth bothering anyway, and c) what if I need one just like it in the future?

I should sell though, I know.

Don't talk to me about surplus saddles :( and I have just sold a perfectly good one on ebay that got me less than £50!!!! AND I haven't received payment for it yet so it is still sitting staring at me.

Can sympathise, have already sold two saddles on e-bay, and now have another 2 to shift!! Still leaves me with 3 though - although i can justify those!!

Oh no!!! This is filling me with even more dread!! Am I better off trading them in for my next saddle rather than ebaying them? Saddler seems to have seccond hand saddles in much worse condition than mine up for almost what I paid new!!

One is a Very Nice 17.5 inch Black GFS Pro event which was £700 new and has barely had a year of very light use and the other is a 17.5 inch Brown Kent and Masters HW GP with 6 months use again £700 new...

How much (or little) should I expect to get for them?

Well one of mine just went for £28 plus postage. Yep, £28. I didn't miss a nought off :( In fairness it was a pony saddle and a narrow fit so probably not much demand?

Through word of mouth a very nice lady bought my other pony saddle for a bit under £100, I was happy to find someone who had use for it and purposely didn't ask a lot as it had sentimental memories but I didn't want it sitting in my tack room any longer. I could possibly have asked more like £120 - £150 but am happy with the deal I did.

I also have a lovely hardly used Ideal saddle that sat with the saddler who originally sold it for several months (no one expressed any interest and I made it clear I was open to offers), so I took it back and have been advertising it anywhere and everywhere. Open to offers but not going to give it away as it was over £1k new and has not been used a great deal. No interest other than people saying they have a max budget of £400 which is just too low for me as I have to fund another saddle, like Capriole says above I feel at that price I am better hanging onto it :( I'm contemplating ebay for that one too with a reserve but am wary of incurring listing fees of c.£20 and not getting even the reserve...

I feel your pain and am probably not much help, sorry :o

ETA: trading it in wasn't allowed as a payment option for my new saddle but if you can do that at a good price then it might be an easier option?

OMG!! I'm shocked...

I would be ok about getting £400 for mine but would prefer more... it's gutting isn't it?! Why don't people realise the value of good quality, well looked after saddles? :(

Would imagine the Kent and Masters would sell well on ebay as very rarely listed and quite sought after from what i have heard.

Why don't any of you have anything smaller. Rubbish.

I too have many saddles. Four I think. And I only use one of them. I should get rid of some too I suppose. Sigh

My saddler refused to buy my old saddle when he sold me a better fitting second hand one- and the saddle was almost brand new, he just said he didn't like that type of saddle! It's still sitting in my bedroom collecting dust, really should get around to selling it!

In these times everyone wants something for nothing/as little as possible. We live in a disposable culture and you can get a whole horse for £500 so why would you pay more than peanuts for a second hand saddle

I sold one of mine through a couple of local forums and groups on ebay and got more than I paid for it on ebay *ducks* It did take a bit of time and effort tho...

I've got two lovely saddles sitting around at home doing nothing. Both cost me a lot of money but I can't get anything sensible for either of them!

One lovely extra wide black Albion that I thought would shift in no time being as it's immaculate and the other a gorgeous older falcon hawk event saddle. I'm gutted they don't fit either of my current horses but again need to fund a new one.

Doesn't seem as though there's any easy answer though.

Anyone tried saddles direct?

No I havent tried them. Is there a website? I will go google.

I keep thinking I might take them along to rideaway when I next go (keep forgetting to take them when I go and dont get to go that often anyway) and see if they will take them and how much for.
