Girl in our yard had a ridden assessment for her nvq riding qualifications. She is registered with a local college but works in our yard.Modern apprenticeships I think they are called.Borrowed the newbie.Only groomed him because I told her too.Never checked that the tack was clean and was wearing casual riding wear.I would have thought that if you can't present yourself and your mount for a situation like that clean and tidy and I would expect formal riding wear what else can you do? Its the bottom line.I remember an old BHSI throwing two working pupils out of a lesson because their horses were not groomed. They had been given one warning the week before and ignored it.They didn't ignore it again.Or am I just a grumpy old woman?

Mine was on working livery at an equestrian college, so yes I do know what you are saying! The first year he was there, standards were high and students were kept on the jump and tack etc was clean and tidy; however by the second year standards were starting to slip a bit and got a bit slipshod - my tack never seemed to be cleaned and was filty. Think it depends on the staff/whoever's in charge, to keep standards up.
