Color Genetics

Question...what colour would the offspring be if the sire was a skewbald and the dam was a dapple grey?

Sorry I know its pretty vague and it depends on the the grandsire/grand dam etc too but any info would be great.

Feel free to play around with grand parents colors to determine variations of offspring...

It is hard to work out because of some genes being able to override other colour genes. Is it really important to you because there are ways to find out I vaguely remember from Uni, but I know one thing... it will be a cute little foal! Ahhhh x x x

You would have to have the genetics on at least one parent to have a guess, and on both the colours of the grandparents and parents to get a guess without genetics - so basically its a gamble, it could be purple :P
lol, but either way it'll be cute so it hardly matters :P

I would imagine that it would be grey, as grey i think is dominent, but if it is coloured then there is a big risk of it fading out due to the nature of the grey!

If gray mare is G/G then the foal (and all foals from her) will be gray unless she/stallion is double dilute. If she's G/g the foal has a 50% of being gray.
Skewbald is chestnut/bay with tobaino (or something, can't quite remember) so depending on stallions genetics depends on chance of the foal being colored. If it is tobaino, T/T means foal will be coloured. T/t means foal has 50% of being coloured.

If you know the genetics of the mare and stallion it would be a big help in figuring out the colour options

*What I've said my not be 100% right as I haven't looked at equine genetics in a while*

Ask in the breeding forum - Their be more help

i'm quite interested in this 1 as my filly's dam is blue and white or grey and white (whatever you want to call it). her sire is supposed to be ed king hill who is a skewbald, so i did wonder if her dam was a grey to get this kind of colour?
