When AVA was born she was rather stripey which was cute :D However, the general consensus was that the stripes would fade over the first couple of weeks and disappear. But, 5 weeks on and they are still as apparent as ever!! Anyone got any idea about whats going to happen with her stripes and where they came from? As far as im aware Dad hasn’t thrown any stripey foals, and mum being a Friesian only has black horses in her pedigree :)

Anyway, I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys think of this as it does seem quite unusual. I love it, hoping they will stay as I think it looks pretty :D

Oooh, nice to know i've not got the only stripey... maybe it does come from the friesian side!!

How old is yours now? Do you have any pics?

Spart is doing good at the moment, he he is nearly 4 weeks and about the size he should have been born at :D

On phone at the mo, will try & get pics later. His stripes are on his forehead, withers, bum & back legs, I though they were scrumple marks from when he was born but they are still there?!

Excellent news, I'm glad to hear he is doing well:D...looking forward to pics later/over the wkend or will have a major rant!

Spripey chubster Sparts bum, stripes are quite hard to see but they are there on his cheeks and down his legs

Stripes on withers, the lines down his sides etc are just chub lines but the ones over his withers are like zebra stripes

Face stripes, they looks like waves but the hair is smooth?!

Did think they were just scrumple marks but maybe Freisans are part zebra :D

He's gorgeous! I'm so glad to see him looking so posey ...and chubby!what a cutie! My 4yr old was born with a Harry Potter zigzag in black on his neck and ermin spots on his socks..the zigzag is still there tho the spots aren't so dalmation like now as he's grown!

I would say crop out appaloosa with the white markings minimal snowcap, probably with the striping possibly indicating varnish. He has white sclera and most probably some mottled skin somewhere, though that can develop over time. Will be interesting to see what happens at foal moult!

Gosh, hasn't she filled out! I think little Ava is going to be one interesting horse to watch as she grows and maybe changes colour!

I have an appy/QH here that started off solid chestnut with black skin, as a yearling he started getting the mottled sclera, this year he is two and he looks to be roaning out on his rump with penny size white spots coming through!

My solid Paint colt has the stripes too...he was a huge foal I wonder if it has anything to do with birth weight or date?

Today at about 5 weeks:

Dun's can have stripey legs can't they... that's the only time I've seen adult stripes before.

You are right they do just look like wavy foal coat on your baby.. my bet would be they'll vanish when he gets his proper coat next spring, but only time will tell!
