I've had my boy 5 years now and every summer he changes colour? Any ideas on what colour he is as I'm seriously confused! :D

He doesn't have black tips on his ears and the leg without the sock doesn't go black at the bottom. You can have dappled summer coats on bays and chestnuts. Chestnuts can have darker manes/tails.

I would think that he is liver chestnut. You could have him DNA'd for his base colour (black or chestnut) so that you know for certain.

Its a Welsh thing! My girl is a different colour from season to season. When I bought her the vet mistakenly put her down on the certificate as a bay because of her completely black mane and tail. These days her mane is body coloured but her tail has alot of black in it still, but lift it up and it is silver and gold underneath. She definitely isn' t a liver chestnut. Best description I can say is she is ginger biscuit coloured. As her fur changes to a new coat it goes bright flame orange. Very odd!

Hmm possibly answers the other question of what is he?! LOL a couple people think he's part shire so maybe shire x welsh?

He has been DNA tested, he is has a Black base and is positive for the Sabino1 gene.

Still not sure what colour he is though! haha!

Could he be smokey black? (black buckskin). Or more likely sooty buckskin?

My screens playing up, so can't see properly, but I'd say he was either brown or a black whose been sun-bleached.

To me he is bay many change coat like that over summer and winter and the hair changes colour as it dies after winter we have one the same

I know a lot of dun's that change colour very drastically (almost black then to a very pale cream), I guess it can happen with any colour horse. Be grateful- you'll never get bored of his colour! :p
