Just wondering are their any specific genes for facial markings - the horse ive just bought has a blaze but neither of her parents do ... has this been looked at genetically
Like other colour variations xx

Clones have different white markings than each other, when they are by definition genetically identical. It's always fascinated me.

Certain white patterns can make them more likely to have specific types of face white, such as splash causing big, loud blazes, but there’s a lot more to learn.

A lot of white markings are caused by melanocytes failing to migrate fully down from the neural crest of the embryo. So it's effectively a 'mistake' on a cellular level whilst the animal is in utero.
