Coloured a "type" - am I going mad??

Didn't pippa funnel have a very lightweight coloured.. bits & pieces?


JM - coloured is easier than saying skewbald/pinto/paint/piebald/tobiano/tricoloured etcetc. Far too pedantic, the same way as palomino covers a whole host of different shades.

just as easy to say....

oh look at that nice skewbald"

oh look at that nice coloured"


oh look at that nice tobiano"

oh look at that nice coloured!


oh look at that nice piebald

oh look at that nice coloured"


no different at all in usage of words...so i really can't see why the word "coloured" is universally used..its lazy.
 
No, I don't think that you couldn't say it is a type, any more than a palomino is (look at any palomino class and there's a huge range of 'types' from a shitland to 99% arab, and don't start me on the variety of shades of palomino either

Disregarding genetics, since when is something that looks the colour of dregs of cold coffee a palomino? )

"Coloured" as an all encompassing description is only a recent development isn't it?

Back in the mists of time when I was a kid everything had, as JM says, a specific label. Skewbald, Piebald or odd coloured, there wasn't even any of this lemon and white, red and white (um, isn't that skewbald?) etc, etc.

As for type, well I have two 'coloureds' one is a piebald (pinto) mini, the other is a breed, NOT a type, she's a Paint, but 'Paint' is also used generically to describe any splodgy horse, if those two are examples of one type then it is pretty far reaching.
In the UK my Paint would just be a bog standard pretty ugly skewbald, here where skewbald isn't a recognised term (you get a "

" if you say that) she's a regular sorrel sabino frame overo.

But only the same as you could say "oh look at that nice...buckskin" just easier to say 'Dun', rather than performing the cognitive search.

I mean, if some said my horse was a nice bay, I wouldn't feel offended that they didn't call him a bright bay...
