so does that mean just black and whites brown and whites and tri's can go in the class.
or can my little roanie pony in as she's not a solid colour
has anyone tried entering a roan in a coloured class.
If the classes are affiliated to CHAPS or BSPA then you would need to be coloured (i.e. skewbald or piebald) or historical coloured (i.e. could be white, but had been blue and white when younger). Roan all over would not count. However, local shows have coloured classes for the above and often "odd coloured" classes which are open to all other coloured types apart from skewbald/piebald.
Basically, you need to read the rules, but unless they specifically say you can enter a roan, then you can pretty much assume that you are not eligible.
and should your roan have an odd white patch on its stomach or something i think the rule is so many inches across you are in even if you can barely see it from the side.
my friend had what looked like a bay with stockings but he had a splash on his belly that you could easily miss.he was a tobiano so could enter coloured classes.
i have a book about coloured ponies and it never mentions skewbalds or piebalds.it refers to them tobiano and olivano and other names.
British Skebald and Piebald Association do not accept roans
They requie a patch of a certain size ABOVE the level of the stifle, so small belly splash does not count.
You can take a roan in an Odd Coloured class, but otherwise do the same showing classes as would suit him if he was a bay, black, brown grey or chestnut pony.
That's really interesting. My horse was vetted as being strawberry roan as he is - pink! He does look very unusual and I've always thought it a shame he couldn't enter RC level coloured classes and not have to be relegated to 'handsome horse'! He is very good and well schooled at home and I would like to take him to a small comp or two, but as he was gelded late something low profile to start off would be good. He would never do anything except spook but he could resemble a camel being so intent at looking at the other horses. So a coloured class would be fun if it was allowed - at least we woud have a great excuse to come last - I would be devestated if he came last in 'handsome horse'
and remember it might not be the case now but there were two sorts of colured horse class when i was doing it BSPA and i think Colored Horse Society and the rules werent quite the same for both. that might have changed though since i did it.
